This filter thing just had me curious so I did some research. The spin on adapter was built first in 1957. It was a dealer installed option or you could buy it yourself in a parts dept. So it's not too unusual to find some Y Blocks or I6's that have them. But for the life of me I can't figure out why the factory didn't start installing them?

maybe they didn't have enough men available to spin the engines around while someone held on to the filter.
I can do this, I can do this, I, well, maybe

That application sounds more likely in a chevy factory!

Was this kit FORD (AUTOLITE - MOTORCRAFT) or a no-name?

The OEM FORD kit is what you need to find.

If you think oil filter canisters date you, I remember servicing oil bath air cleaners...   :085:

I was wondering if the people with leak problems are using some aftermarket adapter.

I still have two trucks with oil bath air cleaners  :003:

Thats almost like what I did. I went to the junk yard looking for parts for my 55 Ford wagon and came home with a mint 48 Olds, that was about 1967. The 55 wagon was a junk yard rescue too..

The part number on my aftermarket receipt is PO6-11270 and then to the right it has a reference number of B7A-6882-A. The  Motorcraft one you have pictured looks different in the center as to color and the gasket looks much heavier. Sometime I will call the Ford parts Dept and see what they have to offer. Well worth looking into. Thanks.

I don't know if Ford has them anymore but I think the ones Dennis Carpenter had/has were original Fords from what I've been told.

The B7A-6882-A part # is the same part number of the conversion kit from Macs.

Zapato

Using factory parts numbers is common practice, just doesn't mean its the same quality as the OEM parts.

That's right Zapado, that OEM on my invoice is just a reference to the original Ford part number.

Whoops- Zapato not Zapado !!!!!

Oil bath air cleaners are still the best air filter ever made, they are still made and used on off road racers, and truck working in dusty conditions. All the pre 1957 Ford cars I've owned had one.
