Work can now begin again on the wife's 65 Bird as a "Bucket List" item and an important project are now finished!  Did the Pikes Peak thing and now have all my "stuff" in the dry!  The car port was by far the cheapest and easiest way to get everybody out ot the weather and a second "tinker" on stuff place.  Have to get the Bird finished so the Ranchero can be pulled from it's slumber....doing things in a different order would cause much distress!

I wish I had more room for projects. I'm limited to a double garage and a carport with a truck camper in it. On the other hand having more space to work on cars would cause my wife more distress !

PP summit house...haven't seen that building in years! You can tell the road up is paved all the way..your car would be covered with dust otherwise. I don't know why it surprised the heck out of me that your Shelby was red, but it did. Somehow pictured you as a dark green kind a guy.
Man, that's a big ass carport..should be a real good shelter in your climate. Concrete too...cool!
"off topic, but relevant"....right on!!

Now have no finger prints, don't need a mancure and work can now advance toward completing this bad boy!  The last shot is the vinyl top "resting" prior to instalation.

That looks great Bill...I always loved that emberglow and parchment combo, looks good.  Can't wait to see that old Bird finished.

That's gonna be one sharp looking 'Bird when it's done. Paint looks great, and I've always liked that color combo also. Are you doing the roof, or having a trimmer do it? I WANT your garage.
That's the one you were doing for your wife, so you could get back to the Ranchero... Right? Looks like it won't be long now and you'll be back to looking for '57 parts again. Did I mention I want your garage?...shoot, just a while ago, under the Mark viii, I was thinking how nice it was to finally have a concrete driveway to work on.

Thanks James and Rich, the paint is not my best effort but I am pleased.  Ya the shop is OK.  Put down several yards of concrete along side and in front of the building to make moving things around easier.  That's when I thought I would like to build cars for a living.  Turns out for me my hobby is not a living so I went out and got a "real" job.  Now that I'm retired I just hope I will live long enough to finish all of them!

Given the the vinyl top was nearly $500 (Special Landua had a unique grain and color, SMS did the material) I don't think now is the time to "learn" how to get one nailed down tight!  Have not settled on who yet, but it will be done by a professional!

Yes this is the wife's car, bought it on New Years Day 1994 for her, ran it for a few years, traded it to a friend for a 54 Ford convertible project, his son bought it from him and figured he needed a 93 S-10 more then the Bird so he was going to trade the Bird in.  Buddy bought it back from his son ($475, trade in allowance) and had it for a couple of years before I traded the convertible back to him again again.

Yup, he still has the 54 in the wings waiting, I'm closer to getting her happy and the Bird finished so I can get on to other things...like the Ranchero!

definetly off topic, and probably not relevant, except this is what's been keeping me away from the '57 most of the time. First pic was a year ago. Now I have a place to smoke out of the rain.
That's my friend Floyd helping me last year. This is the little house my late sister in law left my wife..not sure she did us any favors, but at least my neice will end up with a decent house when we leave.

Nice job!  We do have to "take care of business" for peace and harmoney!  Makes getting back on cars that much more enjoyable!

Thanks...would be enjoying it a lot more if I was younger. Lots more work rebuilding an old house, not just remodeling, than just building a new one. LOL...Don't miss the oportunities to point out to Mama all the automotive tools your using on her projects. The first I posted before, the second is what that beam was for. Once I got the support wall built and the big wedges attached to the roof joists, I used my HF hydralic spreader to lift each of the roof joists. The old inadequate joists were sagging in the middle an average of 2-2 1/2 inches. The hydralic jaw had no problem at all lifting the weight. Got my old roof straight before the new addition was added.

Rich, your before and after pics look great.Your attention to detail shows. This investment house I bought kind of ate up my summer, although I managed to play a bit in August. Going to take a week and recharge the batteries up North, I've got tickets for the Packers/Redskins, should be a good game. Mark

Beautiful work Rich, I wish I could do something like that. My house was built in 1924 so you can imagine the sag in my joists  :003: And you are right about it being easier to build a new one then trying to fix and old one, I've been working on mine for 30 years and not done yet.

Thanks guys. Sounds like a lot of fun, Mark...have a great trip. I'm just gonna get a coat of paint on the porch, then go back to the back of the house. I've got some siding to finish up there before the permit runs out in Oct. I've got some relaxing time coming up mid Oct. also...2 weeks in Phoenix. I'm hoping to get the engine set in the '57 before snow flies also. Probably won't get a new roof on the garage before winter..I'll just keep it tarped and everything covered inside just in case.

love this fix, shouldn't ever sag again.

My last house was built in the late 20s, lived there 22 long years. one repair after the other and when we left some of the early repairs were starting to fail. lot easier working/building new. you've got a lot more drive than I do as never again am I looking an old house while wearing rose colored glasses.

Still off topic, well maybe not so far, 58 Edsel Pacer is really a 57/58 Ford with different clothing!  :003: Decided to paint while the temperatures were compatible with paint sticking to the car.  The wifes Bird is under cover, vinyl top on, can do the assembly work on it while the temps are cool.  The Edsel needed the areas around the front and back glass painted before the glass goes back in.  So...out came the DA, the polyester spot putty and a bunch of block sanding.  Got some paint slathered on (original colors, 1 of 3 ever built in that combination), need to get the top and the area around the A pillars next.
