Rick and I have entered our cars a number of times at the Cruisin' for a Cure show at the Orange County (CA) Fairgrounds inside one of their exhibition buildings.  What was said about the local fire marshals is correct, it is all up to them.  The battery disconnect, is the most reasonable of the restrictions.  The draining of the gas tank, to me seems the most restrictive.  We haven't been hassled in the past, but it's always a possibility.  One good thing about that show is that the cars are out of the sun and dust in an air-conditioned building, with the option of still driving it out of the building and cruising it around the show.  I think that most indoor events are pretty well regulated and primarily static displays.

The facility I managed had cars on display many many times.  Our insurance company drove the gas tank/battery thing with respect to the cars inside the building.  They required the tanks be topped off and the battery disconnected.

On a side note, a full tank is safer then an empty tank.  Had a car catch fire in the parking deck, it burned to the ground or nearly so.  All four tires burned, the interior and the engine bay.  The entire exterior was burned down to bare metal but that car still had a nearly full tank of gas when it was drug out of the deck.

My brother entered his car last year in the same show, and other then the battery disconnect there wasn't any other requirements, so hopefully that will be all. Anyway the two Fords look great sitting there, is the one with the scoop Rich's car? HRD

Yes, Rick's 57 is a beautiful single color (Ford Atlantic Blue), 427 FE medium rise side oiler.  About 10 years ago, we discovered that we both have 57's and we live one and one half blocks from each other, maybe a quarter mile.  Since then we've gone to lots & lots of car shows together.  His was set up Pro-street back in 2000 and mine was originally a period correct Turquoise/White Resto-mod.  In 2011, with my paint showing signs of the poor surface preparation done by its previous owner, I took it off the road took the front clip off, motor & trans out and sent the car to be stripped, body flaws repaired and repainted.  All done before I retired and ended up on a fixed retirement pension, thank the Lord, it came out better than I had expected.  Here are a few Photos taken at shows on the Joint Forces Training Base flight line right behind my house.  Most were taken a few years ago in the old colors, but I kind of like what is shown with the cars.  Rick and I are now coordinating the cars portion of the shows these photos were taken at, Wings, Wheels, Rotors & EXPO at the JTFB in Los Alamitos, CA

Jeff & hotroddonnie:

Beautiful work on the display of a beautiful car.  Almost makes me want to start all over again. lol  Your Display sign will be a lot less busy than mine and probably less busy is better.  Although, I do get quite a few comments about the info on mine.  Yes, you were right, it is really great having Rick and I live so close to one another.  Sure do wish we ALL could get together sometime in the future.
