Hi guys  looks like good place to talk about 57 fords    I have a 57 that I was previous owner of  last guy cut cross member out  to do the gasser thing.  I traded for it sight unseen but it is a fair lane   prolly  an old question  but is there another  front clip that would work.  I'm good at frame swaps. Or should I just use the 59 Edsel frame I already have    be honest OK.    Thanks :deadhorse:

Is the Edsel frame from the small (Ranger/Pacer) series or the larger (Corsair/Citation) series.  If it is from the small series it is a good swap as they are the same as the 500 series minus convertibles and retractables.

BTW, welcome aboard.  Best place in the world for 57 Ford info.

I think its a pacer  will the Granada  spindles work. On the Edsel     :001:  I guess I should do some measuring.   Thanks ford blue blood

Ford Blue blood

Yup, that is the hot swap.  Lower ball joint hole in the Granada spindle needs to be reamed deeper to get full thread engagement and allow the castle nut to go on far enough to put the cotter pin in.

Look around, there are many "kits" out there that bolt up to the 57 spindles and use off the shelf parts.

Just happened to remember.....the Edsel uses Mercury wheels, 5 on 5", the Ford hubs will swap straight over.  Rear axles swap out as well.  Any kits for Fords will bolt up to the Edsel spindle.

I was under the impression that only the "higher line" 58 Edsels (Corsair and Citation) used the 5 on 5" bolt pattern wheels, and that the Ranger and Pacer used 5 on 4 1/2" wheel pattern, as they were based on the Ford chassis. rmk57, I sent you a PM the other day, did you get it? Rory

Not to be a pain, but this thread should be moved to the suspensions area.

My 45K mile 58 Pacer has 5 on 5".  I believe the car to be 100% stock when I took it apart for a "frame on" restoration.

Sorry about putting this in the wrong place I don't know how to move it :001: thanks for all the good info.my Edsel has the merc bolt pattern

RICH MUISE

No problem...just makes it easier to keep track of when . You/we/me can't move it, James or a moderator has to. Actually, lol, I'm not sure where it should be either since the original question was about frame swaps, not suspension. Maybe general technical? Have a good day, I'll try not to be a pita again, and welcome to the forumn!!
