It's been more than fifty years since I have taken a 57 Ford tire off the rim. I am going to have to dismount a couple in a few days. If I recall they had to be removed from the rim on the inside rather than starting on the outside. Anyone have some advice on taking them off the rim? I don't want to butcher up the bead doing it wrong.

I just had my 57 wheels broken down yesterday so I can clean them up.  Yes they do come off from the inside.   So you are right.

Thanks Jay. That's a big help. I am converting the front brakes to disk and had to buy 14x7" Ford Granada rims to clear the calipers. Using 68-69 Mustang rotors with the setup.

Why not take the wheels to a shop and have them taken off?

I have a shop. Have leased it out for the past nine years since I retired. I just didn't want to try to remove the tire from the rim backwards on my Coats machine and destroy the beads. The tires are in real good shape, but older. Thanks for your input.

If you have to take  your stock 14" front wheels off, I would like to buy one of them if it looks solid like this one without any slotted  openings..

Okay Ecode, I am just starting the conversion, so I am not sure when I will be doing the wheels. I am pretty sure they are like your picture, but will double check. Will let you know, probably sometime today. Not working on it today though.

clutterbuster. haha, I got it now. You are using a machine. I thought you were prying the rubber off with bars. Way old school.

Right Sprink. Used to pry them off by hand in the fifties.

Jay, the wheels look like your picture. Probably would cost around $20 to ship by FedX. Make me a reasonable offer with shipping and I will give you my address to send the money.   Don

These things happen.  Thank you for checking what you have.    I'm just going to keep on looking.   Someone out there has one that he is not going to use and is willing to sell it.  Getting a set of non slotted 14" wheels on my car is another thing on my winter "to do  list".

Jay, I have a wheel for you, just to dam lazy to mail it to you, I thought I had Jeff talked into coming down to the Melt down drags, and was going to send it back to you. So let's say it is Norwell's fault! Drop down to the moonshine run in Georgia and I will bring it to you. Really as I get the little Barn ready for winter, I will dismount it and send it to you. Tom

The truth of the matter is no matter what happens,  we need to blame it on Jeff.   I will not be able to make it to Georgia though, so  I'll wait until you can get to it.   I do want to pay for the wheel and the shipping.  Remember,  it has to be non slotted.  Do you still have my address? Jay

Jeff Norwell

ha ha ha? Blame away!
I am used to it.
