More horn wiring information

For anyone trying to retain an original column and a using a solid shaft. This mixture of Ford parts will literally bolt up and give you a completely stock look. This is the most important part, the turn signal/horn contact plate;

The switch fits but one hole in the column will have to be drilled. The 57 lever bolts up and the switch function is much better than the original.         

Next is the steering wheel:

This particular steering wheel is identical externally to a 57 Custom (which doesn't use a horn ring). It is different from the 57 wheel in two ways; it has a plastic insert that accepts the horn button brush and the signal cancelling extension on the back of the wheel is slightly different. This plate replaces the original metal one and the nylon bushings and is cut out for the horn button brush.

I put this info up so if you are inclined you will know what you are looking for or how to modify 57 parts to this arrangement. You do not have to remove the column to swap out these parts. I know these prices are crazy expensive. I don't know if these pictures can be archived or not for future reference

These are photos of what I used not the actual stuff I bought for mine. I happened to find these on eBay today for show and tell. I am crazy but not that crazy!!! I looked for this info for quite a while and pieced it together, couldn't find it anywhere.  It was another rainy day here. Lol.

yeah, we need to do that, however what we need to do first is save the pics and pn info from the ebay ads, cause you can't go back to those forever.

Its posts like this that put this site a notch above the rest, really useful stuff.  Got to admit I swallowed hard when I saw the price of the switch from EBay but I guess they turn up for less elsewhere.

TURN SIGNAL SWITCH/HORN PLATE. PART NUMBERS #B9A-13341-A, other part number #C1AA-13341-B2
STEERING WHEEL HORN BUTTON BRUSH ASSY. PART NUMBER #C0AF-13A821A

The part number for the index plate is visible in the picture. The steering wheel depends on whether you have a Custom horn button or a Fairlane trim ring if you wanted a new wheel. Either way you would need the cancel cam and the brush grommet off of a later wheel. You can drill the hole for the grommet and replace the press fit cancel cam on a 57 wheel. The pictures show the two parts that are different on the newer steering wheels.

Now I'm wondering if I could drill my own hole in the 57 wheel and make a nylon/plastic bushing for the spring loaded brush.

It would be easy to drill the steering wheel put in a bushing and change the cancelling cam on the back. I think there is a "pilot" hole in the wheel already in the right place. I will take off the parts from the old Edsel and at least measure and photograph the parts when I get a chance.

No rush at all. I have everything on hold until after the holidays. I'll check my old wheel and see if it has a pilot hole. I can use that one for practice.

I have 4 pictures to post. I know they won't fit in one post. The first picture has three parts; the silver part is the cancelling cam from a '57 wheel, the cancelling cam from a '59, the horn brush bushing. The next picture is a better picture of the bushing. The bushing is a little more complicated than I thought. it has a stepped down inside hole and raised fingers on the outside that step up the outside diameter.
