Wow! Sure hope whoever buys this wagon can find what he needs over there.  After shipping a carburetor to NZ last week and having the shipping cost exceed the part cost find myself with a renewed respect for anyone outside the US trying to restore an American car.

The US car and hotrod scene here is pretty good and there are lots of people that ship in parts in 40 foot containers which makes shipping more affordable, shipping one-offs via the Post Office is eye watering!!!

That Del-Rio certainly seems solid, but while the advert states "no reserve" he's also included a note "reserve the right to end the auction early" so if the bidding isn't high enough for him he'll pull the advert.

Eye watering doesn't describe it properly.

I know that car from when it was back in Cali. nearly bought it for 2k. It has had its VIN tag replaced.....would like to have it for the solid body/roof, but I wouldn't pay more than 2k for it. the guy who buys this for 6k and thinks he can make a project car from it is going to spend 20-30k for parts.

That's the trouble, the parts with it that look "usable" now won't be so appealing when bolted onto a freshly painted bodyshell and then the costs escalate.  I don't know the car, the owner or what the owner wants for it, but I bet it's over £5,000 (around $8,000).

I'll watch it and put a cheeky low-bid in when it's near the end (assuming the bids stay low).  If it was closer I'd go and have a look, but as it's in Kent it's nearer to France than it is me!

look at what 'all necessary new patch panels' look like, beautifully surface rusted.
can you spot any seats or glass except for the liftgat ?
What do you think about how nicely the lift gate hinges have been 'removed' from car? can you see a single box of hardware and small parts ?
This project is a worst case for somebody wanting to build it. It makes a good donor car.

djfordmanjack

what do you think of that 'mint' VIN tag ?
In the US this is called felony

As many already know, it's really tough to buy a pile of parts and make a car out of it.  It is really hard to even know you bought a whole car...very hard to inventory a disassembled vehicle.  I'm not pretending to know the European market for Ranch Wagons but I would consider that kind of money for the Raunch Wagon...at least it is in one piece and my daily driver.

By the way, got a call from my partner Clare saying the carb has arrived at home, can't wait to finish work and get home to check it out. I could have reduced shipping costs if I had waited until I had found someone else bringing something in but I ran out of patience. Thanks again Zap.

I don't know about that loose vin tag.  I hope that whoever buys that gets a good  title  that matches  the actual frame number.    That car would be a good parts car for someone on the other side of the ocean.   Finding the missing assorted hinges and small parts over there could take a lifetime and a huge amount of money.
