DJ.....probably my reading glasses, but I think Randyl said the area would not have the screws going thru 2 layers.

yes, that's because one of them overlapping has cutouts where the screws would go, so they only cut into 1 layer of sheetmetal. floors are 18 gauge heavy steel and probably screws wouldn't go in 2 layers.
never mind about the reading glasses Lynn, I am still lucky not having to use them. Just wanted to point out correct hex head size for future reference here.
I know that this area is just a minor detail, but I love to investigate those and getting close to what FoMoCo had in mind for '57.

Guenter, I agree a million percent. I am gonna revisit my recollection if I remember. I know I used 1/4" bolts and nuts since my floor was two panels thick (they have 7/16" heads). I bought the screws from Concours as being "correct", not something readily available locally. I seem to remember from banging my head on the screws as a teenager that they were sheet metal screws.

G-..late to the Party and maybe this is not helpful at all for placement.. but I took a couple of shots of the 57 gas pedal assembly.

My Del Rio has a 68/70ish Mustang hanging pedal setup with cable. sure works nicely.

Got the same in my Ranchero.  It came with a brand new original gas pedal but seeing as everything else was missing I stayed with the Mustang set-up.

Much to my amusement the answer to the metal screw question is right there on top of my new(ly aquired) 'Ford at Fifty' 1953 anniversary book  :001:
clearly shows the worker driving those in with a HD air tool in a 53 Ford. seems it had to happen quickly :003:
the book itself is a must have for any diehard Ford fan!

Very neat, DJ, but I've been starring at the picture in the top left of the book cover for 10 minutes now trying to figure out what it is. Lol, Looks like an egg crate full of golden eggs in front of an assembly line with a bunch of CV joints hanging from an overhead rack adorned with carved sculptures of Henry with a hat. I'm guessing that's not what it is.

Probably more info there than anyone needed to know, lol. Thanks Gary. I now have total confirmation that my memory is totally shot.

thanx guys, that's awesome !!!!! exactly what I needed. I will post my efforts in checking these measurements when doing the floorboard repair and pedal setup.
