I just went though this with my 57 Custom.  The 58 manual steering column and box bolted in with no problems.  I bought mine for $200 complete with the shift arms and steering wheel. The steering seems a bunch tighter and the box is definitely smaller.  I would also like to use the shorty 406 manifolds.  I have CJ heads on my 390, so I can use CJ manifolds also.  I'll be trial fitting my motor soon and I'll post the findings.   If you find out anything about this issue, please post it also.  Thanks!

So... if you use a 58 box and column... ya gotta use a 58 wheel too?

Yep..the horn parts are different.  The steering wheel from 57 will physically bolt on, but as the 57 has the horn wire coming through the center of the steering shaft, there is no way for it to get there with the 58 box.  The 58 column will have the wiring in the turn signal harness.

I thought we had a  thread a year or two ago about how someone made contact rings for the horn so the '57 steering wheel could be used on the '58 column.
I can do this, I can do this, I, well, maybe

Jeeps used a contact that adapts fairly easy.  I too think there was a thread about that...
