Correct - was Imperial, then Imperial Esso, then Esso.  There were also two Exxon stations in Canada, one here in Abbotsford and one on the east coast.  After the Valdez issue, they disappeared.
The B-A signs were for British American.  In younger years I worked at my father's B/A station, regular was called 88, premium was 98.
To this day my brother's and I still use it as one of our secret code lines.

I remember 98 octane! Ran it in my white '57...it was a street return car from having been a race car (1/4 mile) Tried running mid-grade in it (I think it was around 92)...ran like an old woman trying to hurry across the street...worse on the regular. so I had to spend THIRTY CENTS a gallon or fuel! Oh the horror of it all! LOL!!!

If memory also serves...isn't EXXON just the American version of Esso? Both originally of the Imperial, then Humble lines? Something rattling around in my head says they were all under the same umbrella. Maybe not...but it's been so man years, and oh so many mergers...LOL!!!

Esso was Standard Oil (S. O. ) and Enco was Energy Company (En Co ) . In 1972 Exxon was unveiled as the new  brand name for all former Enco and Esso Stations.
When I was fourteen years old, I was amazed at how unintelligent my father was. By the time I turned twenty-one, I was astounded at how much he had learned in the last seven years!

It was nice to see you yesterday. I  hope that everything is OK.
Just think about those two kids on the roof of that 58 4dr and washing it.  Those roofs cave in real easy.  Maybe the 58 roofs were stronger with the ribs in it. Jay

Thanks Joe...that is kind of what I remember...you just sharpened the picture a bit.

Those kids sure couldn't get up on the roof of one roof today's cars and do that...there would be a bowl in the roof in no time!

Nice to see you also Jay  and thank you very much for going out of your way to let me borrow the puller, and as always, thanks for the replies everyone.

Back in the late 60's I ran an 11.1 compression Y block and only used Phillips 66 Flite Fuel. and then came the 70's :005:

Ah yes...I remember the days of .$0.20 gas...and gas price wars!

Check out the meat on the rear tires of that New Hazelton pic! Serious treads there!

1959 Back there.

Columbia street still looks the same after 60 years. Kind of a seedy area back then and probably still is.
