I just want to know which one of those urchins was Dave!   :003:

Those were good days to be sure. Bet part was if you were caught, it usually meant some sever punishment like washing the patrol car or some other menial task.
Today...poor kids get hauled off to jail, booked, then have to go before a judge. Society has lost it's sense of humor.
Funny, I find it to be opposite of that. It seems now, that if "little Billy" dos something bad at school, rather than a trip to  the principals office for "the Strap", he gets a time out. Then when he goes home and tell Mom about what happened at school, Mom calls the school, threatening to call the lawyers to sue for damaging Billys fragile ego and sense of self. As Billy gets older, shoplifting from stores, stealing cars, vandalism, selling drugs, break & enter, etc, despite being arrested multiple times, the modern "revolving door" policy by the courts keeps putting him back on the streets constantly, to keep the cycle going. Instead of society losing their sense of humor, it seems more accurate to say that many of today population has lost their sense of personal responsabilty and accountability , not to mention a total lack of respect for other peoples belongings.

Some truth to that..especially mommy and daddy and their lack of responsibility. But also...I see kids arrested for things today that they would have never been arrested for before.
Goes both ways...and neither...is the right way. Sadly...I think we have forgotten how to deal with small issues...how to parent...how to raise kids to have respect, for themselves, others and society as a whole.

When I was fourteen years old, I was amazed at how unintelligent my father was. By the time I turned twenty-one, I was astounded at how much he had learned in the last seven years!

I wasn't me, really...we would never think of doing that to a mean teacher's car!   or would we... oh oh.. I hear the cops coming!

Ford Blue blood

Things started going down hill when we were told corporal punishment was bad.  Not making the little league  team hurt their self esteem. Everybody had to play and have at least one at bat.  Then we had to give every kid a trophy for showing up no matter where the team finished.  Then lets do away with scores so there are no winners or losers.  Now some schools are doing away with grades.....again to save the little $_its self esteem.  See how well all of that is working out?  Everybody is a victim, everybody "deserves" the new car, big house, big TV and countless "toys" and a debt load that would stagger a camel!  Got to have it now, demand CEO wages in an entry level position.  Have no idea what hard work is and if it don't work throw it away.....off my box now.

Hear hear. I walked away with my son at the end of a baseball season when they started handing out "participation" trophies at the end of a season back in '91. I explained to him he played for a team that had not won enough games to be rewarded with a trophy...and being smart...he understood. He refused a trophy in subsequent years on his own.
