Hmm. They were always just 'horns' to me. Never gave 'em any thought as long as they worked. However I did manage to save a couple & put them on one of my old 2nd generation  Econoline vans. They sounded a lot better than the stock van horns.
I wonder if they were just the standard ones that the cars that were built on the west coast or west of the Rocky mountains got.  Like having different suppliers for different locations.
'West Coast Horns'?   
Maybe some guys from Washington, Oregon, or BC will chime in. 
There are some outside mirrors that I like for those 2nd gen vans that are called West Coast mirrors. Came painted or in stainless.

Tom, I agree, they do sound  much better than the "Short Horns".
