How rare or hard will it be to track down a radio delete plate for my 57 Ranchero? A quick search and I found a guy that reproduces them and some for a 58. No luck on evil-bay.

I got my heater delete plate from this company through eBay. Happy with it, great quality.

Yup that's the one I found that's reproducing them. Thank you for the direction.

I bought a red venom part and I had it "metallized" by a guy who does the process quite a lot. He had problems with the part but got the chrome to finally stick. Well when I got the part the plating started to bubble off... The guy said the plastic was "off gassing". I then had the part actually chrome plated by Paul's Chrome. They had problem with the same issue. They finally got the thing plated. It is in my car now but the chrome plating is not really attached to the plastic. There is so much metal the part is heavy. It looks good but not perfect which it should for the money I have in it. My point is that I think the plastic that red venom is using is not very good quality, perhaps it is recycled.

My factory radio and clock delete plates were so badly faded they looked more like aluminum than chrome. I just used a light dusting of aluminum spray paint and they match up pretty close. Far from perfect but close enough for me.

FWIW... That's the same thing that I did also.  I just gave them a slight dusting with the aluminum paint.

try self adhesive aluminium tape used for house heating insulation. it can be worked down the ripples with a soft cloth rag/ and your fingernail or similar. can be polished afterwards. costs next to nothing and works great. Even tried this on the rusted spokes of an old Covico steering wheel and they came out nice.
