Same here, if I see a Ford at a show or the dragstrip, with a non Ford engine, I just walk on by. Same thing at a people choice judged car show, I don`t care how nice the rest of the car is, if there`s a Chevy engine under the hood, I will not give it a vote. And if it`s say, a Hot Rod class, and ALL the prewar Fords have Chevy engines, I don`t vote for anything in that class. I have had these Chevy in a Ford people say it`s because "A Ford costs too much to build", but they already have well over 100 Grand in their half breed Hot Rod.

59meteor.   Everything that you stated is true. No matter how nice the car may appear to be. when I spot something like that, I just keep walking.

I also want Fords in a Ford. but lets face it. those others with the mouse engines in a Ford. they are the diehard other brand guys. and come to think of it, THEY STILL WANT A FORD to drive around !!!  That tells the whole story :003:

mustang6984

It's no longer a ford when they put one of those boat anchors in it.

Well in all fairness the Chevy cars themselves have probably fallen apart or rusted away so they have to find something to put their motor in.  They even do it to later model cars.  There's all kinds of parts to swap Chevy motors into Fox Mustangs.

I know the navy is always looking for boat anchors...

I'll be passing through OKC on I-40 probably Saturday...where are you. Taking 40 into Conway AR then grabbing 65 north.

RICH MUISE

Be safe on the road my friend. This really sucks not being able to offer a rest stop for ya again, but as before...call me if you need assistance. Are you back healthwise enough to drive that much as before or is it going to be a "take it easy" trip? Get the house taken care of? I think you said one more trip for the boat?
I can do this, I can do this, I, well, maybe

mustang6984

I'm fine for driving...so that will be the best part.
Have the check for the house in hand! HOORAH! And she is moved in already!
And yep...one more trip to grab the boat.

So Hugh,

Any advice for motels/hotels/food/gas sources on road trips conducted in the current covid-focused environment?  We will leave for Florida from Minnesota tomorrow or Friday. Going thru eastern Iowa and eastern Missouri, then Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama.

Will try to make the 1200 miles in 2 days again. My guess would be the hotels and motels are fairly desolate and room availability is not an issue. Is that what you are finding?  We always look for places at least an hour out of any metro area, no matter what state. I have mixed feelings about reserving rooms, cuz sometimes we feel like driving later into the night with lesser traffic.

Last year a coil went out  late at night (on my 3rd full set of those darn things now at 141k miles), so the last trip down took almost 3 days instead with a day lost to repairs. Wish my 2007 Sport Trac had the 2000 era 5.0 instead of the 4.6. The last 5.0's are more reliable and durable in my book. But the coils have been the only issue and the 4.6 works fine otherwise, I guess. I keep extra coils in the bed compartments now. Wife's car is a lot newer, but too small.

Have been hardly anywhere since last January, other than a lot of in state trips over the summer related to farm sale.  IDK if it is the same everywhere, but here in all the small towns and rural areas people are living mostly normal. Different story in the immediate metro area. Even implement dealers in the metro area had limited access, have not been back as the environment felt too restrictive.

I got all remaining welding/grinding done and last of bare underside metal covered on my 57 by 4 AM this morning. Looks great under there, if I do say so myself.  Cleaning up back garage now and then perhaps put on some seam sealer. Undercoating can wait til we are back from Florida, but the wood heated back garage will be unheated for the next month, so wanted the bare metal re-covered at least to prevent any flash rust.

So being you have been on the road quite a bit lately, got any pointers?

Thanks, Mike

I haven't had any issues finding hotel/motels so far in my travels. I tend to stay in Super 8, Quality Inn or Motel 6...usually for about 8-10 hours of sleep then back on the road. Prices have been below $100 but I think that is mostly due to the time of year, not really the Tourist season. West coast, being more socialist, seems to have more restrictions...further I go into the Mid-west less annoying.

I am back on the road now...sort of...only went from Port Angeles to Olympia tonight. Picking up a 428 for my Delivery along with a C-6. Then heading out for the real drive...hope to be home in Shell Knob within 3 days. Taking 40 to stay away from the snow in Montana & Wyoming.

No real suggestions...what you're doing seems smart to me...I'd stick with it.   :003:

I can't remember if the guy is here or on the HAMB but he has a 36(?) Chevy with a BB ford in it. He apparently gets lots of flack for it. Of course he loves it :003:

That guy would be me.....36 Chevy with a 351C/FMX.  When asked about it I just say, "learned a long time ago cars don't float so no need to have a boat anchor in it!".

I'm a big Cleveland fan and would love to see some pics!
When I was fourteen years old, I was amazed at how unintelligent my father was. By the time I turned twenty-one, I was astounded at how much he had learned in the last seven years!

Here ya go Joe......it was a junk yard 72 Ranchero engine/trans.  No idea how many miles were on it in 74.  Gave it a rattle can overhaul, put it on the road in 80 and now have 140K miles on it.  Engine uses oil but don't leak or smoke (only on start up) and never fails to hit like it should.

I always thought that the 351C was a very sharp looking engine. Back in the 70s I owned 2 1970 351C Mustangs, a Grabber Orange 70 Sportsroof (fastback, non Mach 1), with a M code 351C 4 barrel , with a Shaker hood, and a bit later, a Grabber Green 70 Mach 1, also with the 300 HP 351C 4 barrel. Even back then, when 100 octane lead Premium gas was available, if you advanced the timing much, they tended to ping, with the 11.0-1 compression ratio. With the huge ports and valves, they were quite soft before 3000 RPM, but really pulled strong once you got to 3000. A buddy of mine that owns 1/2 dozen 57 Fords and Meteors still owns the 70 M code Grabber Green Sportsroof with a Shaker, that he bought new. And RMK57 has a 70 Boss 429, along with his 57. Seems that liking 69-70 Mustangs, and 57 Fords go hand in hand, at least in BC Canada!
