Hello Everyone, I've heard a picture is worth a thousand words, you never know where a photo will take you. I believe the gas tank in the cars are 19 and wagons carry 20 gallons, I have never carried more than 10, just to keep it fresh.

Quote from: Ford Blue blood on 2022-06-14 07:33I might be walking the edge here.  This administration ran on "The Green New Deal" and won.  We Americans as a whole are a funny bunch of folks!  Get a bunch of feel good words put on paper and go about our routines.  That is with respect just about everything that affects our daily lives.  After it is on paper and every one is full of warm fuzzies the unexpected and unintended consequences of what they just signed on to become reality and the crying begins.  I know, I am  :deadhorse:

A prime example is folks that buy a new car and trade in one that they already owe more than book value.  The dealer says no problem, we'll just add it to the loan, and that will increase the interest rate a bit.  They sign the contract and later realize that they are eventually paying three times the value of the car.

Hello Everyone, talked to an old friend today, gas prices came up and he said remember 1973 we where stationed in San Diego and they were selling gas to even number plates one day and odd number plates the next. Gas Shortage, remember? Then my fun car 65 mustang 289, 10 to 1, two carter 500, my every day driver 1970 challenger 383, to be young and have no worry's .. Yup, the good ol days.  My daily was a 70 Boss 302, premium was $.32 on base in 70.  Decided to go racing, F100 became the daily, 12 MPG on a good day.  I do get pains remembering the 55 MPH speed limits!  Made trips home from Norfolk, VA a forever journey!

Here in Nova Scotia Canada, I topped up the tank on my 59 2 door sedan, with Shell 91 premium,(the highest octane that I have found here, in BC we still had Chevron 94). I had 1/2 tank, and it still took $70.00 Canadian to fill it, at $2.25 per liter. (3.78 liters to an American gallon). In September, I plan to tow my 59 to the FE Race in Pennsylvania, with the V10, my F350 Dually gets around 8- 8 1/2 mpg towing the 24 foot enclosed trailer. Here, to fill my truck would be about $260. Canadian. Sure hoping the gas prices take a tumble between now and September!

OK...long story time. Glenmichael mentioned the California gas shortage. Not sure if he had the year wrong or if they had two shortages, but the one I remember was 78-79ish. I had just been promoted to VP of a large machine shop in Fountain Valley. I was driving a '73 Fiat Spyder, and my boss told me one day a VP needed to be driving something nicer, so to look for something, and he'd pay for it!  Well, lots of Lincoln and Cadilac dealers were going out of business because who wanted an 8mpg car during a gas shortage. (I did, lol, I only lived one mile from the shop). I saw an ad in the paper for a liquidator in Anaheim who had New Lincolns and Cadillacs clearing out at 1/2 sticker price......had to go look, lol. I saw a gorgeous 79 Mark V Cartier edition...dark blue vinyl roof/dark blue body color/dark blue interior. My boss didn't want any liabilities on his financial record as he was getting ready to get financing on some big bucks n/c machinery, so he gave me $ for the down payment and covered all my monthly expenses on it.
When I went to the bank to get financing, the gorgeous redhead B of A bank manager, who I had already dealt with previously, was shocked at the 1/2 sticker price. She called the place to verify, and when he did, she asked if he had any Mark V's left. he had 6. She told him to hold them all, she'd be in that afternoon with a deposit check for all. When she hung up, she told me she loved those cars, and thanked me for telling her about them. Apparently the bank was looking for some cars for it's upper staff. Sticker on the car was around 29K, a lot of money (for me) in '80"
Anyway, the Mark got about 7-8 MPG. I could live with it since I was so close. What I couldn't do was spend 2 hours sitting in a gas station line to get gas, so every 10 days or so, I'd send my secretary out to the gas station with it.
I can do this, I can do this, I, well, maybe

Rich, It was a while ago, I remember late 1973 in southern California we or I first heard the word- maybe letters OPEC...  and yes California had gas station problems into the late 1970's.. In 1975 I started working in the HUSH House which was a building to test the f-4 engines, so free use of aviation fuel for the Mustang. Loved running it at Carlsbad Dragway north of Miramar Air Base.  And I do miss those DAYS...  Sorry no Fathers Day Pictures to busy doing burn outs in my brother-in-laws 55 ford truck, the Kids could not stop cheering ..... And the BBQ was good too.
