The Ranchero was introduced on December 8, 1956 at the National Automobile Show in New York. A key factor in the development came to the forefront in the form of steel technology and the advancements in body-die engineering allowing a stylist’s drawings to be able to transfer directly from drawing board to product line. The Ranchero was ad- vertised as “More than a Car! More than a truck!” was available with Ford’s passenger car line options list, with such comfort offerings as automatic transmission, power steering, power brakes, power windows, and the Ford select aire under dash air conditioner. Ford’s 116-inch wheelbase chassis was the home for the versatile car/truck body that was based on the Courier Sedan Delivery. Hauling capacity was 1,190 pounds. Not bad for a car/truck Thanks Ford Motor Company Ford Archives
