Title: do you have any old pictures?
Post by: 6cyl57 on 2013-02-25 17:15
got me thinking after posting some of my pictures, and seeing
some vintage pictures on the HAMB. Do any of you guys have some old pictures
of 57s. Or some random pictures with them in the back ground, it would be
cool to see.

I had a great night in the garage. Both my boy's were out there with me, we talked about their Grandfather, the car, and where we are going with it. I bolted up the oil pan, they handed me tools, and bolts. They laughed, played grab a$$ with each other, I yelled for bolts, tools etc. Brought back memories of days in the garage with my Dad. What a great night!

Isn't that the truth just as we get older way too fast. But some things don't change with time, my 34 year old son still comes over and works with me in the garage and we have some great times together.

Great pictures and stories guys. Gasman, is that the same 57 you have now? And highball hmmm wow.
The guy leaning on the fender with another guy under the car, and the car is on a bumper jack.
My girls love it when I ask for there help in the garage too. My youngest is learning to drive my 4 speed,
and doing pretty good.
Can you imagine that conversation someday with her friends / family.

The guy leaning on the fender is me, the shift linkage on the floor shift conversion came off and my buddy volunteered to crawl under and fix it, my other friend took the picture. We had no choice it was the second/third rod that came off and we were up in the high desert. Good old bumper jacks, used many of them back in those days.  :003:

Guy's
I am learning about them growing up too fast! I have two daughters that are married, Two grandchildren, and two more on the way! My oldest son is 18, and will be leaving for the Air Force in June. The youngest of the four is 15, and wanting to be 20 :003:! He is the one that asked me if he could drive the car to school next year, after he gets his license! If it was a couple of miles down the road maybe, But not 20 miles down the road! At least not yet :003:

I had bought two 66 Mustangs back in the 70's when they were cheap and gave one to each of my boys when they turned 16 and got licenses. The youngest drove his to summer school one day and it got stolen  :005: I had only paid $1000 for it and the insurance gave me $7500  :003:. I bought a replacement one and when my son bought a truck he gave it back and I still drive it. My oldest son still has his 66..

This fall on the last day of school, I let my oldest daughter take my '71 442 to school.
It was only a half day and about 4 miles from home. She has driven this car with me in it a few times. This was a loooooong day for me,but it sure made her day.

not to knock 1957fords.com by any means, but the general pic quality is very low, and very little info to go along. They're great for general reference though....which is what their intended use is I guess. JMHO.

Posted this one before. 1963  The girl in this pic looked a lot hotter 15 & 20+ years later.  Long blonde hair, killer bod ...(http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y146/TomIII/smilies/Babe.gif) (http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y146/TomIII/smilies/hawt.gif)

Don't know if this 'auto adjust color' one looks better or worse.

Somewhere in downtown Anchorage, also 1963 ...

Found a couple old rust buckets I now wish I'd kept lurking in this pic of my/our first house.  Probably 1972 or '73.
The '57 wagon & next to it & mostly obscured the '55 stick shift T-bird.  I think I sold that Bird for ~ $1500 around then.  (http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y146/TomIII/smilies/beathead.gif)

Not '57 Fords but I/m gonna throw them in anyway.  (http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y146/TomIII/smilies/hide.gif)
These are from the legal drag races that we went to on the same day of the 1st Ranchero pix.  On a very narrow 2 lane country road about 50 miles from here.

what a great thread this turned into. You guys got some cool ole pictures and history.
Tom S neat racing pictures, is that a dirt road they are racing on? I have seen other tracks that were dirt.
And I'm not talking roundy round, they were drag racing on the dirt.
I hear there is a drag strip in Alaska , and the track is heated.

That Gun Fighter car seems to be famous,I have seen that one often posted.

Yep a nice cold winter time car show.

Tom has provided some great insight into the automotive world in Alaska with all his posts I have read, I didn't have a clue before. . I'll be the first to admit I know little to nothing about the state. I just assumed any form of racing would be dog sleds  :003:

Yeah, we got sled dog racing.  Lot of it going on right now & the Iditarod starts real soon.  Ain't my thing.
We don't have nearly the amount of motor racing here that I would like & hardly any places for it.  I have been to the drags maybe 3- 4 times in the last  20 years.
We did have the oldest continuous annual street race in the USA.  Running from the very early 1960's to 2006. Came back one time again in 2009.   It is gone now. :'(
The "Rondy Grand Prix" was held in several different locations in town over the years.  I worked as a pit crew guy, sometimes the only one, for 2 or 3 different friends over time for maybe the last 15 - 20 years of the race.
This pic is from one of the early races in the original location & the one I liked best.  Right downtown.  Some guys raced Vettes in this back then.  They did not do well & were beaten by lighter cars.

Check out my vid & be sure to read my comments.  My buds kickin' ass as usual in the very hot Porsche powered V-dubs.

What?!  They have held major national & international races on the streets of Long Beach Since 1975.
Long Beach is in a state you may have heard of, California.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Prix_of_Long_Beach
There have been Formula 1 & CART, (Indy cars), races on the streets of Detroit & Phoenix  Maybe other US cities too.   :dontknow:
Just found that racing on the streets in New Jersey is planned for this year & maybe New York later.
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/95596
How many 57's up here?  Come on, man, you gotta be kiddin'.  How would I have a clue on that?
Lemmie see. Alaska population about 720,000.  A rough guess is that around 1/3 are off our limited road system, so ~475,000 on the road system.
Population of California, lots of roads, ~ 38 million. (38,000,000!  (http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y146/TomIII/smilies/eek.gif) )
Probably about 1% or less of what you have in Cali.
Any idea as to how many you have there?  (http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y146/TomIII/smilies/lol.gif)

I'm well aware of the those races I've been to a few :003: But those are highly organized, regulated types, nothing like the kind in the video with spectators standing track side without all the safety barriers and high $$$ grandstands.

No, I have no idea how many are here, but my guess would be more then Alaska  :003:

I see.  Those high & very hard packed snow banks are/were plowed up there as barriers. Pretty safe, people had to stay back from the edge.  Usually a wet & slick track.  There was a little bit of grandstands.
Very sad to see it has gone away due to high costs & lack of sponsors.

Way off topic but what the Fur Rendezvous is about.

Going to WI at Christmas offers a real challange for us.  We have no "winter" clothes.  My heaviest coat is passable to about 32, no long johns, no "snow bunnies", no mittens and no stocking caps (tabogins here in the south) so it is layer up and stay out of the wind.

Back in the 57 era, before rail shipping, new cars for the West coast of Canada were all trucked across the States (better roads probably). My Dad would commercial fish in the summers and, for a few years, haul cars from Windsor and Detroit in the winter. Lots of stories from those truckers eg. when 2 of them got bored one day they stopped and each bought a case of ripe tomatoes and went down the highway side by side throwing them at each other, or one guy I knew lost only an ear lobe when the train he was trying to beat to the crossing cut his tractor in half right behind the cab! I went with my Dad to Windsor one trip with my broken arm in a cast, he always said I paid for my trip when he got caught without permits one day and when he appeared before the judge the trooper said my Dad had to leave me back at the truck with a cast on so the judge gave him a break so he could get back to me. That also was the trip when he blew his truck motor 150 mi out of Detroit and re-built it behind a cafe while I played in a scrap yard. I remember how he sent me into the cafe for a coke (I thought oh boy we're going to drink a pop) and then proceeded to pour it all over the rusted grill attaching bolts to break them loose. Running States in the middle of the night w/o permits, waiting for hours for a local to tell how to get around low overpasses on the secondary roads which had to be used to dodge scales, no air conditoning across S Dakota in a heat wave- lots of memories.

Lorne..BTW..I showed pics of your car around where ever I went, and although I found three that had seen it, no one knew anything about it. I was holding out hope for the Goodguys show..but that got rained out. Are you back home?

Thanks for trying Rich. Your comment a while back that the salesman said it was a Wash car might be true, I found a sticker on the driveshaft showing that it was made in Wash. I think I'l try posting on the NW Hambers group now that you've asked around.
The truck in the pic is the same as my Dad''s but actually is the guy that got hit by the train. The drivers were responsible for any car damage. I broke my arm falling from the top ramp to bottom, was taken to the clinic in one of the tractors which were odd looking with the ramp over the cab and no trailer on.
Back home now and wondering why I can't shove a fishtape up through the frame over the rear axle so I can run the battery wire inside. Seems to be bocked right at the top of the hump.

Every so far there are 16 ga. ? plates that are spacers when the frame was assembled.  The frame is two stamped C channels and the spaces were used to keep the frames at a standard size.  They are a PITA.  They keep dirt in the frame which eventually causes the frame to rust out.  I media blasted my frame.  Good luck getting the media out!!!!!!!!!  I was able to remove some of my plates.  I would have had to open up the frame to get them all out.  I wanted to do the same thing...run fuel lines, air lines, brake lines, and battery cables up the frame for appearance and safety.  The spring buckets in the front pinch off the frame also.

Thanks Gasman, I don't want to hijack this thread but now I know not to waste any more time looking inside the frame rails. I need to move the battery cable because someone fastened it alongside the fuel line so I'll go on top as far as I can.

I really do not want to run lines along the outside of the frame.  Factory fuel and brake lines run along the outside of the frame.  Both appearance and safety are the issue.  Running along the inside of the frame exposes lines to damage in the event of a driveline failure.  The brake and airbag lines are small enough to run on top of the frame and clear the floors.  But, pretty tight for -10AN fuel lines and battery cables.  I've seen battery cables run through the body but I'm not very comfortable with live cables buried under the upholstery.  On version 1.0, I ran the battery cables between the frame and the floor but the starter relay was in the trunk next to the battery.  The cable was only live in start mode.  Worked great.  The down side was there was no battery voltage in the front of the car.  All power feeds ran all the way back to the trunk...making for several live wires buried in the upholstery.  Some of the live wires can not be avoided.  Modern technology dictates that all printed circuits (processors...IE computers) have clean battery voltage and grounds.  In other words,  the MSD box, Vintage Air conditioning, fuel pump controller, fan controller, FAST engine controls, radio, air ride control, etc all require 12v and ground wires running to the battery.  To keep them 'clean', they can NOT be combined with any other device.

PS Hijacking the thread????...I think that happened a loooonnnnggg time back!!!!!!

The truck stuff is really spooky.  As kid on the farm, we had a neighbor the owned one of those old Ford car haulers.  We played in one the wrecked ones in his back yard.  It was always a big event when he would get a fresh load of new Fords from Detroit and stop off at home.  Dad used spare time to do some outlaw trucking.  He owned one the new '57 C series Ford trucks.  I don't know how they did it.  NO interstates.  NO power.  NO brakes.  Those little semis did not have air brakes!!

When I look at those pics now, "spooky" is a good word! Single axles on the tractor and trailer, a few thousand lbs up over the cab - I remember a brake fire coming down Steven's Pass in Wash.

Carsavior, gasman826 & Harry:

Those are some neat photos from the 60's.  I wish I'd have had the sense to take some photos of my original 57 Custom 300.  After I bought the car, I knew it had to be repainted s it was that Avacado Green (barf green) that was so popular back then.  I had been able to scrape $100 to have it painted by a professional shop (boy have the prices sky rocketed since then).  It was a "bitchen" Cadillac medium blue metallic paint job, but I never could afford to have it reupholstered to get rid of the original green.  The gasser nose high rake was "in" at the time and the car was jacked high in front and had the front bumper removed to give it a dragster like appearance.  Nothing could have been farther from the truth.  With a 272, 4 bbl carp and a set of cutouts that I had to crawl under the car to open, a Hurst 3-speed floor shift, it could barely get out of its own way.  My quarter mile time was in the mid 18 second area with a speed of about 76 mph.  But, I loved that car and knew someday I'd get another when I could afford to do something with it.  Thank God that time has arrived.

Lost my sister in 03.  Almost finished putting her old New Yorker back together tho.  Then a couple loose ends and I can start on the 57.  The wagon in the pic is the one I want to base my project on, tho mine is a 2-door.  Can I put that style trim on my 2-door so I can replicate dad's paint job?

carsavior...as far as the trim goes...for ideas on what was available you can go to www.1957fords.com and open the models section for pics on all the different 2 dr/vs 4dr options.

Good morning
I am the one who posted some of the old pictures.
The reason for this message is to ask anyone on this site if they can help me locate the Poppy red ( orange) 1957 Ford referred to as FORD COUNTRY.
This car was sold to a man in Southern Wisconsin many years ago, an I am looking to purchase it back if I can find it.
I know this is a long shot but worth trying.
Lets call it a mid life crisis in my 60's.
Thanks in advance for your help.
I did find my 1954 Ford convertible I sold 16 years ago, by the man is not willing to sell at a decent price.
