Third try....
My modern car finally has some paint on it after 14 plus years. Hope to get the trim and bumpers on it soon.
Looking great !!
Nice. The two prettiest colors there are is black and white. But, either color suffers the most from not being clean. Good job.
Excellent Jay, now let that arm rest :003:
All that block sanding is worth it....really nice!
Your time on the prep shows! great job. It's got a nice clean look to it. Good choice on the shade of white. Now get it home before it starts snowing.

It's home and arrived just as the sun was setting over the pond across the street. He called and said that he would be arriving in about 10 minutes so I was waiting with my camera.
I see that you still remember well what they always say about weather in New England. "Stick around and it will change". So far it's still pretty good.
Gonna start putting some of the small stuff on tomorrow because the sore feeling in my finger tips is fading, having not touched sandpaper for the last three days. The shoulder is feeling better also. The front valance panel still has to be painted that silver grey color before installing the front bumper. I'm not going to put the bumpers on without help, and without wrapping them.
It's been a verrrrry looooong road to this point. Those guys that build cars on "TV". in 5 days to a week must be taking a lot of shortcuts even if they work around the clock. They could be speaking with a forked tongue also and taking more time than they admit. They sure are good at applying the paint though. I'm very pleased to see it painted and shiny. Thanks for the support guys .
Killer Job Jay!..... Love it!!!!!!!
looking real good !! I like that shade of white. Is that a factory color for 1957.
Mine was two tone , someone painted all white a long time ago. But i don't think
its the right shade .
When I do mine it will be all white again.
I love that car Jay...awesome. One of my favorite looks on those old cars is white with white wheels and standard dog dish caps. Dunc's old 57 had that look...loved it..check it out.
Very nice. One of the hardest decisions is what color , or colors will I paint my car? Arctic white , with tinted glass has crossed my mind. White with a combination of several different colors come up too.I have a lot of time to think about it, since I don't even have primer gray on it yet. Everything you do to it from now on will be a huge step in looking better. The trim, bumpers, wheel covers, etc are extra candy for our eyes.....I have had several cars, (all 57's) that were 2 tone. Many were all white at one point( revealed by sanding) and the color added next. This was done at the factory ,says the data plate.
Looks great Jay, I love the picture with the sun set!

Those are just "roller wheels" for the purpose of moving it around. When it is all done, it will have 14' white wheels with dog dish hubcaps. I'd love to have the look of like Dunc's old 57 in your pictures. The problem is that I'm missing one of the original wheels. I need one original 14' wheel without the slots in it and have plenty of the ones with the slots.
I had a nice enjoyable day today attaching the shiny stuff and no stinking sanding. Isn't it amazing how one can have so much fun doing the finish touches after all those years.

Thanks Tom
The delivery happened at just the right moment when the sun was going down.
Jeff liked that picture with the sun also and is giving some thought to using it in an illustration.
Could ya have 'em pick it back up and redeliver it right when the leaves are turning?
Jay, I have a solid wheel, off a 57 Bird, I can't use it because of the disk brakes. Too bad we are so far away. Tom
Jay, the car looks great! Looks like my Dad's first car! Tim :unitedstates:

Winter is going to be here soon enough. That reminds me the new heater core in the 57 is still blocked off and there's just a temporary bypass hose on the engine. If I should get tempted to make a late night test run this winter, a hooked up working heater would help.
It would also help if it was registered.

Speaking of which Jay... Are you guys allowed to run YOM in Mass?..... I have a matching set here for my 57 in ONTerrible.
Jeff
Yes we are allowed to use them If they are in like new original condition and not restored. The RMV has to inspect them before they are assigned to the vehicle. After that the plates become the property of the RMV. If we decide to take the vehicle off the road, we have to turn them back in to the RMV.
I was real angry with Rich this morning for about 3-4 minutes when I went out to feed the birds and saw some leaves all on my front lawn. There must have been about 20 of them. All that talk about leaves... Hope no one was listening when he mentioned snow. I got over it real fast when I went out in my T shirt and started putting shiny stuff on my car.
Tom Wild Hog I sent you a PM.
Jay
Jay, a few leaves?! Come up to Vermont! Tim :unitedstates:

Is that your dad's first car in your avatar? Do you have any pictures of it? If so would you post some.
Thanks for the comment on my car. It's been a long time trying to get it back somewhat into shape.
FWIW You can keep all of your leaves up there where they belong. Jay

I'm from western Kansas. What is a leaf and where do they come from?
Hey, redwhitered, in N. Texas if you have 6 trees within sight of each other, they call it a state forest.
Jay One of my fond memories of growing up in New England was the smell of burning leaves in the fall. Everybody use to just rake them into piles in the street and burn them....was a great smell. Of course, that was back in the dark ages before you needed a permit to fart.
Jay, that is my Dad's first car. That pic is from 61'. The computer it was on crashed, so I'll have to scan it agian, to another computer. Tim :unitedstates:
Tim
So when your father had that nice white 57 custom in 1961, it would have been like a brand new car!!!
I can remember around that time when they were all over the place and in good condition. Seems like everyone had a 50s Ford in their back yard. In those days I can distinctly remember thinking "The're everywhere and will always be there". For the record I did buy my share of them back then, but could never find a custom. It's a matter of being in the right place at the right time. Too bad it took me about 40 years to find the one I have now.
Well something happened and they ain't there anymore.

Those are the things that Rich sent me from Texas and they just appeared in my front yard. There were more there this morning. I'm sure that he can get you some.
Tim in Vt. has a lot of them to spare also.
PS I notice that Rich has so many of them that he even burns them.

Rich.... I still love the smell of burning leaves in the Fall. It's those small things that you miss when you leave and go to another state. Yes we do need a permit to burn now. I'll see if I can capture some leaf smoke in a tightly covered jar and send it to you. Wait a minute...First of all I gotta pay $25.00 and git a stupid permit! That's going to cut into my shiny parts fund for my custom. Jay
We burn them every day....which color do you want?.. red? yellow?, orange?..... ha ha ha ha..... no permit required.

Leaves? I don't see no stinkin' leaves.
But if I did I wouldn't rake them. burn 'em or anything. I'd just leaf 'em alone & let Mother Nature take care of 'em. Like she always has. :001:

Actually I don't burn them also. I just look out the window as nature blows them across the street. It's best to leaf them alone. Jay
