Am I looking at that wrong?

I am in southern Maine. I moved a couple cars to storage put this car in my shop lifted the frame and moved the body up off the frame 4 inches. I removed the hood grill and support pieces took the seats out and some odds and ends. Most of the car was disassembled and thrown back together to sell. No glass except a broken windshield I have been looking gray tinted glass as long as it is not too dark. I have a 370:1 rear gear and a drain plug in the housing and a fill plug in the center section. I will disassemble later to put new bearing's and seals this winter. I did buy a second car but it is in pretty good shape so I will not strip it for parts. The big issue is no steering box. Does anybody know if a Mercury box is the same?

Welcome!  As many said all kinds of experience here, both the good, the bad and the ugly!

Now that had to be strange to drive! It's obviously articulated, and I'm assuming the pivot point is over the second axle (like a modern big rig), so the cab is not going to be "pointing" where the bus was headed on a turn. That may be why they only built four.

Four of these were built in Australia, they had twin flatheads, side by side with twin four speeds connected with one stick.

Please tell us a little about your car and plains for it.  Where are you located?

Thanks for all the replies! I started with the trunk drivers side cleaning up the side piece and the wheel well. They are both pretty bad so I cut them out and I am fitting them in. I sanded the interior and put a light under the car and put a primer on the good spots. The front floor pans are bad and I cut them out. The drivers side rocker inner and outer are bad they are both out. This car has some history (of owners) and none of it makes a lot of sense. The last owner bought it and sat on it for 2+ years. The previous started but quit. I purchased a second car for parts but I may have to revise that plan. The only thing I am missing is a steering box! Both cars are 57 custom 300 2 door sedans.

Quote from: 59meteor on 2024-11-14 18:29I guess that the enclosed rail cars came about due to vandalism and theft. Not sure if "artists" were tagging new cars with graffiti back in the early 60s or not, but I knew a guy that worked at a large new car auto terminal/storage facility, and when they went to unload new Z/28 Camaros in the late 70s, it wasn`t uncommon to find an empty spot were the Super T10 4 speeds had been. I guess if a group of thieves jump on a train load of new cars, headed thousands of miles away, they could remove several transmissions while the train was en route, and toss them on the grass beside the tracks, for a fellow crook to pickup. Plus I suppose some kids could throw rocks at the cars and/or windows while the train was chugging along.
The T10 4 speed theft you described occurred in the Atlanta area as the railcars left the BOP (Buick-Olds-Pontiac) plant back in the day. Bucket seats were also stolen .......So I'm told.

Cardiac Cobra also built the Monster Miata.  My brother had one with a supercharged 5.0.
