Hi All. I've had enough. I'm going to convert from genny to alternator. Can some one supply pictures and maybe a parts list with sources and wiring diagram. I would like to stay FOMOCO and go 3g 1 wire. Thanks

I've converted everything to 3G but I use the conversion pigtail that has one wire to connect to the dash light (check the Power Master catalog).  Unfortunately, converting a Y-Block generator to alternator requires a different bracket.  I made brackets.

ok,  I'm in the process of rebuilding my gen,  ordered parts are in the mail.  maybe I should have gone with the alternator,   just whats involved?,   I have a 312eng,   thanks for any info.    jerry                   PS,  let me put it another way,    if I have someone rebuild my gen its going to cost me a few hundred,  because its to heavy for me to ,handle,    but if I go with alternator I can do it my self,  cost about the same,   all I need to know is how to hook ,it up,   an what do I do with the 2 wires from the gen?   HELP

Custom Replacement Auto Products CRAP) make brackets for alternators on Y blocks and other ford engines.
They have a website.
I have used their brackets on FE engines before.

ok,  forgive my ignorance,     whats 3G,  conversion pigtail?,       I looked up the hanging bracket for the conversion,  looks simple enough,  I might make a mechanaic yet,  an I found a alternator that might work,  powermaster 8-57101,  now where do I find a pigtail an instruction  to hook it up?      jerry

to Gary,   sending a picture of the alternator,  the markings seem correct.    over the years an many forgotten posts an old age,  I've forgotten LOTS.  seem to rremem, ber having to do with the voltage reg,  an disconnecting diff contacts,  does that still go,  or  by changing to a alternator you don't have to worry about that?, olso,  lookiong up powermaster I came across a 3G 1 wire small frame straight mount 6.93 alt 120 amp at $202.99,  let me know what you think,      jerry            PS,  last time I'll  bother any one on this sub

Diagram is correct.  The OE regulator is not used with 3G conversion.  A 3G Power Master one-wire alternator does not use the pigtail.  It is a one wire and does not use the dash light.

Gary,  thanks for the info,   going with the 3G is best, but,  just to say,  I've never seen a gen lite go on in all my years,  which is many.    just 1 more question,   going with the 3G,  dosen't that eliminate the vol reg?,   an with that,  no more questions.   I went bck a year an read yours an my posting about this subject,  I think it was around Mar 3rd 2024,    some day I'll jhave to come out your way

Yes, 3G alternator has built-in regulator.

There are instructions with the Power Master that show how to connect it to the generator light.

ok,  update.    after all of the info about my gen,  heres the last posting about my GEN.   its been rebuilt,  noise is GONE,   from all the damage inside gen it looks like it could possibly be orig.   now from wasting every ones time,  all the info has been stored an I won't bother you guys again about gen to alt swap,  but thru it all I've learned allot,  even found where other noises were coming from,   so,  thanks guys,   until the next problem,    jerry
