Sealing a Fuel Gauge Sending Unit

Does anybody have any advice for sealing the fuel gauge sending unit? I was experiencing some leaking on my 1957 Country Sedan.  I ordered a replacement seal from Concours Parts. The replacement appears to be cut from sheet material as it is square sided. It appears to be some sort of cork composite. The original I removed was a large rubber o-ring, which was very hard. As you can guess by this post it is leaking worse than ever.
In looking around at several suppliers all they seem to now carry are these square sided gaskets.

Thanks

You should be fine with the cork. Maybe use gasket sealer on both sides. I think mine was cork that I replaced. But that is my 2 cents worth.

If it is a replacement o-ring you are looking for, try a hydraulic hose shop. Know the size you need because they won't know.
I can do this, I can do this, I, well, maybe

Thanks for the suggestions.  I just looked in my Ford parts book and it specifies the diameter and thickness of the o-ring.

What book do you have that's that detailed? This is the one I currently have.

Jeff..........How about sharing the diameter and thickness specs with the Forum.

The book is a reprint of a Ford parts book covering 1949-1959. There are two volumes, one with the parts diagrams and that can get you the part number and the other is text with all the specifics on the parts and years.

The specifications of the o ring are as follows

Buna rubber 2.12" ID 2.29" OD .16" thick

Hope this helps
