Fairlane62

A high school friend had one that his uncle bought new and passed to him.  It was beautiful white, his uncle had installed clear plastic seat covers when he bought it, so the seats were still like new.  He decided that he wanted a single Holley like other folks and replaced the 2 fours for a "B" intake and ratty Holley that he got from the junkyard.  It overheated and he called me over to look at it.  The junk yard intake had mud dauber nests that had clogged the thermostat causing it to overheat and blew a head gasket.  I saw it along side the road a couple days later and went to his house to see if he needed a tow home, and he said he got mad at it and sold it to a guy for $50.

Bear in mind this was 1967, so it was just an "old" car at that time, but still burns me up when I think about it because the car was so nice before he got hold of it.

The article shows 245 hp and indicates dual quads. Me thinks they need a proofreader!

John F. could probably tell us how long they last behind an 11 second Y-Block.

Ron, my car probably is not a good comparison to a factory FOM.  Mine is actually an FMX, which evolved from the FOM.  It has 1-2-3 manual shift capability, and I have added a shift kit and a few minor changes for reliability.  In 49 years of racing this car, I have never totally destroyed a trans.  I have worn out a few clutches and bands and bushings though.  I have not seen inside my present trans for 8 to 10 years, but it is still performing correctly.  Borg Warner's initial design was exceptional.  With a cast iron case, it is rather heavy though.   John

I pounded the FOM in the Raunch Wagon with just a 292 and no issues.  FOM is still going strong in another '57 Fairlane.  The inside of a FOM is very similar to FX, FMX as well design similarities in the C4 and C6 which carried over to the AOD and 4R70.
