Anybody got the engine out. I would like a Pic of original Brackets on cross member that mounts sit on. Somewhere along they were cut off so if i could get a pic maybe with a tape measure showing distance apart.

I just pulled a engine last weekend. I will shoot pics tonight and post for you.

Here is a pic of the cross member from one of my Couriers actually. The Fairlane one is still connected to the brake cables. Same thing though. Hope this is what you were looking for. View is from the back forward. If not what you were wanting let me know and I should be able to provide. Actually in the "tear down" stage on the Fairlane.

Sorry no Thats the Trans Mount XMember I need it for the xmember that the engine sits on.

mustang6984

Ah...okay...I will shoot that and post it then. I thought you were looking for the rear mount which doubles as the trans mount. Give me about 30 minutes.

Okay...here are two pics with tape and a ruler from a level. If these don't do the trick, I can use one of the Courier engine compartments when the sun rises tomorrow. It is outside in the dark now, but it also have no front fenders and such, so I can get better access to the engine bay with measuring devices. We'll get it done!

Just thought...do you also need measurements from cross member up to the mounts? For those I will need to use the Courier so that there is enough room for me to maneuver around.

A 352 FE. and I honestly cannot tell you. Has been years since I took it out. Decades. The one I sent you a pic of was a 292 Y block and I believe it was in the upper holes. Mac can ell you for sure...he has one in his 57. I didn't pay attention when I pulled it out. My bad.
I am guessing the FE was probably in the lower set of holes. I pulled that bad puppy back in the 70's. Sorry. If you need any more pics feel free to ask. I'll do what I can to get you what you need!

I thought the '58 FE used the same style mount as the Y-Block that had two studs.  IIRC that's what I used when I installed an FE in my old retractable fifty years ago.

An FE and a Y-block use the same motor mounts in the same holes. All (4) crossmember holes are used with both. The transmission mount works with the same mount as well for both if using a 3 speed manual or a mid sixties Galaxie toploader (or T-10) 4 speed.

I think the single stud mount started in 59

Yes, for whatever reason, Ford switched to a single stud motor mount, with that stud in between where the dual holes on 57-58s were.Same height, same C shaped mount, I believe the same single stud C mount was used thru 1962, when it was replaced with a thinner square mount, also with a single stud . On my 59, I am using a later (1966) Toploader 4 speed, originally from a 66 Fairlane. Rather that modifying the transmission crossmember to use the later style trans mount, I reworked the existing factory trans mount setup, which uses a rubber pad with a U shaped steel strap. The early transmissions have a wider bolt spacing for the U shaped strap than the later style trans mount, so I cut a section of the flat, lower portion of the U shaped strap, so the 2 bolt holes were the same spacing as the later trans, and welded it back together. Since the strap was now narrower, I just ground each side of the rubber pad until the strap would slip over the pad, and used the same 2 bolts that attach the pad to the crossmember itself. I imagine the way I modified the original transmission mount should work with a C4, C6, FMX, and possibly later transmissions than those.
