fairlane 500

went to a car show at the ford world headquarters yesterday,   there was another fairlane 500 there, but she also called it a sunliner,   i don't c any id saying that it is a sunliner just a fairlane 500,  would someone explain to me whats goin on?,   thanks

I thought a Sunliner was a convertable.Where as a Skyliner is the retractable.We should all know these things

    Sunliner is a model name for conv. used thru 1963. Sunliner was a glasstop in 54-56, was a retractable 57-59 , and a hardtop 60-62. That is what my standard catalog of American Cars 1946-1975 says.

   OK-- Here's my 2 cents worth---- 1952 --59 convertables were called "Sunliners-in 1959 you could get the Sunliner in either Fairlane or Galaxie versions! In 1952-54 glass tops were "Skyliners but in '56 were optional on Crown Vics.Then 1957-1959 were the Retractable Hardtops(in either Fairlane or Galaxie versions). Hope this helps.  Check out a book by John Gunnell -titled--Standard Catalog of Ford (4th edition)--Krause Publications -- has all models from 1903 thru 2007 (except Couriers--How could that be? Again the bastard child of Ford!)LOL.   KID

I agree with KidKourier. Fairlane 500 is a trim level only, and all body styles have a name listed in the original sales info such as Sunliner for a model 76. Brad

The Kid is the most correct.About 18 years back there was a 59 Fairlane500 here in Minnesota.The plate said LAST500........It turned out in documentation that it was the last Fairlaine 500 for 1959.The build was at the L.A. plant.

I've never herd of a 1957 thru 1959 ford Galaxy. I have only herd of 500 or custom. Also Sunliner were a convertible

ok,   thanks for all the info,  now i know a 500 fairlane is a body or trim style,  but being a convertable makes it a sunliner
