Any painters here?

Any help would be appreciated. I'm planning on doing some painting soon and would like to know if there's any painters here that are familiar with the rat rod look that has the multicolored/layered paint scheme? I was going to do a epoxy primer followed by a 1 stage urethane flat light blue and a final coat of 1 stage flat dark blue pearl, followed by a light sanding of the top coat to let some of the light blue show through. Anyone see any problems with this or know of a easier way to get the effect? I thought of doing the epoxy then the dark blue pearl and just going over that in spots with the light blue but not sure how that would work out?
