disarming an air bag

Is there any way to disarm, or totally remove and air bag from a steering wheel. The Mustang steering wheel I'm using in my '57 still has the airbag intact and I don't want to take any chances on accidentally tripping it when I get around to my wiring or for any other reason.

If there is no power to it, just take it out.  You can find a fiberglass cover for the steering wheel that looks like the airbag with some of the late model Mustang suppliers.
