No handle, just wrap the paper around once (start at the long edge, around and end at the opposite edge) two fingers and the thumb, light pressure and sand.  And yes, always cross your strokes....one other thought, I would use a little more water to keep the most of the residue off the surface.  It looks like you have quite a bit of paint on the work surface.  I just splash water from my bucket when working vertical and use my hand to wipe it off with frequent dips and swishes of the sanding block.  On horizontal I use a squirt bottle and a wet rag to keep the work area clean.

Bill...I had intentionally left the residue on and let it dry for the sake of being able to photograph it..
Ron..I knew they make up to 3000 grit foam pads for the da's...thought about trying it at least for the safer areas (no high crowns)..but figured I had enough things going on to screw up as it was.
Also, I forgot to mention I also use a 3" pneumatic buffer for the tight areas.
