312 boat anchor?   Early 60's, driving my dad's '56 Ford 4 door wagon.  312, 4 barrel, 3 speed auto.  That damn thing would run. Illegal night time 1/4 mile drag race against some early 60's Vette that some guy other than the owner claimed was fast.  Bad start but I stayed right with him.   Should have run him again but chickened out due to the location & illegal nature of the whole thing.  I sure didn't want to get busted for racing the family Ranch wagon.  The 'Ole man wodda killed me.
Ok, maybe that Vette wasn't as fast as some thought.
I ain't gonna argue the point.  The SB Chevy did win out over the Y-block by a great margin. :sad10:
A year or two after that at another illegal night time drag race one on one challenge between two guys new or near new cars.  A full size 327 powered Chevy & a 289 Mustang notchback.  The Mustang kicked ass big time, much to the surprise of the Chevy guy & a few others present.
That 'custom' '57 is still ugly, especially the front.  YUK!

Jim:

I had gone to my bowling league earlier and had dinner at about 10:00 p.m.  When I started watching TV after getting home I promptly fell asleep in the recliner.  Upon waking up I decided to check the 57 site and responded to a couple of threads.  Just a normal retirement night. LOL

Earlier in the day I had detailed my 57, getting it ready for a big car show at the Orange County Fairgrounds.  My car will be on display in Santini's booth, along with 5 or 6 other cars he's painted recently.  The car show is a "crusin" type, where we open up our headers and idle around the perimeter of the fair and up & down several of the parking aisles.  The crusin passes Santini's display and gets a lot of lookie Lou's.  About 3500 cars show up for this event and it's billed as one of the largest one day shows in the country (I don't know if this is true or not, but it is a big one).  Then on Sunday, I'll be showing my 57 and Shelby GT at the Mustangs at the Queen Mary Show. Courtney Hansen (OVERHAULIN'') and Vaughn Gitten Jr. (Drifting Champ) are the celebs at this event.  Maybe I can get Courtney to autograph the picture I took of her in my 57 at the local car club meeting Rick and I were at. lol
Altogether, it looks to be very busy but fun weekend.

I know what you mean. I got up at 4am stayed up to 7am and went back to bed and slept to 10:30am. It's a tough life but someones got to do it. I've got a car show in Lima, OH this weekend. It's called the Rebel Run. I guess it's pretty big for around here. It's just 120 miles from here so I shouldn't need to do too much cleaning when I get there. I'm showing it in Drag race dress and I think I'll put the window stenciling on it. If the Lord will give me strength I'll build another FE for it this winter and show up at Columbus next year. I'd like to drop about a second on my quarter mile times, still drive it on trips and get 20mpg with it.
PS. I just noticed your pictures. Here's some pictures of a car show I went to in South Bend. I didn't notice any cars while I was there though.

boy those are a very nice pair of TROPHYS.  Out here unless your car wins a "Best of Show" you are lucky to receive a chincy acrilic plaque.  LOL

My first thought upon seeing the pics of that 57 was that the paint reminded me of WWII warship camouflage scheme. Then I saw the front and said to myself Bob (57 Agin) is prolly puking his guts out. To me a front clip and tasteful paint could save it. Nice interior.

Jim..."I,m showing my car in drag race dress"..I hope it's your car that's going to be in "drag race dress" and not you.
Bob...I knew your car was missing something...that first pic..now it's perfect.

Rich,
Now if a 270 lb. old fat guy showed up at the 57 Ford Shootout in a print dress, high heals and a lot of bright red lipstick, do you think Potter, Drummand, White and the Hurricane would talk to him. Bye the way, how the h _ _ _ did you get +18 atta-boys. You've got to be paying off someone. LOL   Jim
