1957/58 wipers

Wanted to buy 1958 mechanical electric wiper set up to convert my 57 from cable vacum.

57,58 and 59 wiper set-ups are all very different inside the cowl. Don't think electric came out till 59.
Best to buy an aftermarket kit if your internal linkage is still ok.

55 - 57 Chevy motor bolts to the stock 57 wiper plate.  60 Ford electric bolts up with a few little mods, spacer and a sleeve in the mounting holes on the wiper motor.

He is wanting the inner cowl section and the wiper arms and transmissions to get rid of the cable setup.  He wants to do the conversion that wildhog and I have done to ours..you can use a 61 Ford wiper motor or a newport.  Gets rid of a troublesome system of cables and binding pulleys.

so a wiper system from a61 ford doesnt have the cables? do you use the whole linkage set-up from a 61 will fit inside a 57?

No.  A 58 has arms but is a lot of work to adapt.  The 61 motor is the only 61 part except maybe the switch that will work..I'll explain more when I get to a computer...phone too hard to do it with.

59 ford had optional electric, 58 ford has arms not cables,  if you can find a 58 parts car you need to cut the inner cowl piece out grab all the linkage and find a 59-61 electric wiper motor. motor will mount under the dash for a much cleaner install. you will have to re route your defroster  ductwork. Send me an e-mail address as I have pictures stashed away detailing it a lot better.

finding an electric motor in a 59 is probably close to impossible everytime i followed a lead on one it turned out to be vacumm, much easier to find a 60-61

Quickas01, if you are still in need of those parts, I have an extra cowl section and wiper arm linkage with bezels. You will need your own motor, and the new chrome bezel pieces for the cowl. You should have the windshield out for the cowl work.. Mark        Also, 57 bezels are the same, and I used a Newport motor. So far so good
