Third brake light

Hey guys.....I've got this really dorky looking third brake  light unit I was going to use on the rear package shelf, but decided after installing it that it just wasn't going to work. I've seen at least some of the aftermarket billet stuff, but that's not what I want either. I was thinking something oval, or round, chrome or painted.
I'm not into bikes, but I'm wondering if there are any new or old tailight assemblies from a harley or whatever that would work...or maybe a 30's type tailight from a packard or Desoto or ??  Maybe even an old lamp part. Just searching for ideas.

check out something like came on the original Taurus cars, they're pretty simple no sharp corners little hill looking things.

I was faced with the same problem for my 34 Ford 2 dr. sedan and used a 34 ford cowl light.  It's old and worked for me.

I've seen customs with material blended right into the body work.  I'll not sure what it is...carbon fiber, plexiglas...  No seam and it hardly shows until the lights are lit.  Too late now since your body work is done but it would be a neat trick to put a third brake light above the rear glass in the roof.  I'm not using the stainless rear glass trim and there is a perfect 2" lip to insert a light.  Damn, I'm buffing the roof right now.  Dilemma...let it go or start over on the roof...what to do...what to do.

OK! going to use that ugly word but that rear roof fake vent on a 58 CHEVY Impala would be perfect for a 3rd brake light. Used heavily on lots of kustoms from day one practically. S imilar panel could be fabbed.

I've always liked those. I'm not going to redo body and paint for a third brake light though...need to find something cool for the package tray....cool, but bolt on and done

As long as you are going custom I would find some old housing off an early truck and make a Blue Oval lens for it.

More along the lines of what I was thinking.

making it oval would be great but a blue lens is going to get you pulled over right and left by troopers everywhere.

Not quite oval but I need to check my old junk boxes might have a 51 ford tail light. Will look around if you're interested. More oval shaped are 49-50 lights almost sure I have a chrome bezel. Let me know.

There is a cool lamp used on old police cars, usually on the right front fender. Looks like a 7" driving lamp but, with a red lens with STOP in the middle. Found one at Carlisle, have seen others since.

Rich take a stroll through your local yard, there is bound to be one that will easiely adapt to the package tray.  One thought, get it as tight to the window as you can, if not it will shine in your eyes (in the mirror) as it reflects off the glass at night.

I'm gonna have to start looking at old cars from a different perspective now...also will give me something to look for at the swap meet tables usually filled with junk that I pass by. I really think though the light will eventually be found from a motorcycle. I spent a half hour last night going thru hundreds of examples on epay, and only looked at 1/5 of what was on there.
strange observation...headlight is one word, but if you type tailight as one word, into a search block, it asks if you meant "tail light". spellcheck has a double "ll" in the word but it doesn't look right to me.
