On the next episode of Project 302...in a few weeks or so...

Dr Toothmeister has performed the leak-down test, looked at the spark plugs, evaluated the carb tuning, and has a prognosis. Can you guess what the prognosis is and what the solution will be? (motor is eating some oil, and still a bit hesistant when getting on it)...

Revisit the leak-down test, plugs, and massive jets in the carb....

Guess I should go back to the yardwork...and thinking about a better exhaust tone. I don't like the frappy tone when punched-up.

Thanks guys...it's all about fun.

Jeff...the exhaust is 2" into some free-flowing mufflers that don't have any label on them. I am thinking they are Thrush Turbo mufflers. This exhaust was on it when I bought it 8 years ago. It is about ready to be updated.

This car used to have a stock Chevy 350 and it had a mellower tone...the Ford 302 (.060 over, mildest Edelbrock cam) has more frap tone.

I am thinking of going 2.5" with some bitchen muffler that doesn't sound like a Mustang. Maybe Magnaflow...I'm listening to 'em all.

First things are to raise the motor 1/2" because the driver side exhaust manifold taps on the engine mount at idle...very annoying, resonates thru the frame and sounds like the trans has rocks in it. Being a drummer, I hear some cool rhythms at times...but I would rather just hear the motor. Funny that you don't hear it outside the car.
Next episode of Project 302 we will be addressing the unusual reason for oil usage and hesitation when mashing the go pedal. Steve has a good idea what the problem is...but I won't let the cat out of the bag in the interest of good YouTube fun.

Then...tires and new exhaust. Change from C4 to AOD tranny down the line.

This car is a blast and I am loving the rareness of these 57s! The rack and pinion, front and rear stiff sway bars have this 'wagon driving like a slot car compared to where it was. Bobby Walden (Walden Speed Shop did the fabricating work and will also raise the motor for me) explains what he saw with the old steering in this clip at 12:50 towards the end...(this was a fun episode showing the "Fenderless" '32 Ford that Walden, Foose and other built that was on the cover of Street Rodder last year)...

All this fun on a reasonable budget is very satisfying.
