This maybe belong in the for sale section. I figure this page gets more traffic.
I'm not looking to buy, just curious about the head lights. Was that a safety
feature added late in 57 or a dealer retro installation.

Safety had nothing to do with it. It was just another aftermarket add on to bring the customer into the "future". It's a very nice car to restore. Looks pretty decent.

Another "future" add on. It's a shame, we pay big money to restore cars we didn't care enough about to keep from the past.

Not sure what your wondering about. Trans code is 1, axel code is 3. Different style plates had the build codes in the serial numbers.
That seller actually has three of these listed on ebay. hit the "see other items" button.
I can do this, I can do this, I, well, maybe

oh ..yea , I get it . I was thinking transaxle as one . I have been working on a '62
Tempest  also. They have one. The tag just looked a little different than
some of the others I have seen.

Jeff, the black car is a early car, with large I.D.tag and the tan car is a latter car with smaller I.D.tag, but more information on tag.

I like the Custom...those headlights would be the first thing to go though..

Old, loud, and fast.

Either one of them would be nice cars to fix up/restore.   That black one looks especially neat.

If I had a 57 with those funny headlights, I would ask for a night time delivery so my friends and neighbors wouldn't get to see them before I took them off the car.  Come to think of it if I had to park it in the woods behind my house, I'd cover the front with a canvas just to be on the safe side.
    This is just my opinion.

I heard that Ford offered dual headlight conversions kits towards the end of 57 thru dealerships.... would that be one of those?..... if so..... that designer must have been called out of the minors..... ha ha ah ha
