I also failed to mention Jay is working on a killer 2 door Del Rio Wagon.... very solid car. Although not mentioned he has a killer 40 ford coupe and some awesome 34 Fords.
I had such a great visit.....
Thanks again Jay!!!

Jeff
I not going to do much with the 2dr wagon until I get a title for it.
Sorry that you never got a chance to go for a ride in any of the cars.  I hope that you have more time on the next trip.  It was a pleasure meeting and talking 57s with you.
I know that your going to do the right thing with custom and it  is going to be a beautiful car when you finish it.   You picked a nice car to start with.    Jay

Rich, I'm from the northeast originally. It's easy to forget the the whole northeast was populated with Native Americans before we showed up. Many town, rivers, lakes, etc. have Indian names. I don't know all the different tribes but I'm sure Jay can fill us in on that.
And to keep thing on a 57 theme, my first ride in a 57 when I was 10 was in a brand new one my dad bought for our move from New York to Arizona, our old Studebaker won't make it that far  :003:

As long as we are half off track on the subject matter again, and Rich mentioned this being a "Feel Good thread" I just wanted to mention that the Holidays will be here shortly. I would like to encourage people to try and purchase things like Xmas cards from charitable organization, museums or what ever groups you may support that rely on public support. Hallmark, K-Mart etc. don't need the money as bad as some others. Sorry, this popped into my head as I ordered cards this morning from a museum. I'll get off my soapbox and go back to the garage :006:

Exactly why I was curious about Jay's heritage. As you said, when we were growing up there, we were aware of all the names referencing The Indian history, but I think most of us back in the 60's considered it just that...history. I wasn't aware there were decendents of the Northeast Native Americans still around. My first eye opening was when they built that little  casino in Connecticut on Tribal land. Before that I didn't know there was tribal land in the NE.
LOL..little casino...went there once. The parking lot is so big they run regular buses in the parking lot in case you get stuck parking a 1/2 mile or so away from the casino.

I like the primer too and mine was not that bad looking when I first applied it.  Now it's all blotchy from fixing small spots and touching it up here and there.   The tops of the fenders are very "touchy and easy to dent".  I spent most of the day fixing them from the dents that I MADE while working on the car.  Talk about going one step  forward and three steps backwards.   I keep getting tempted to stop looking and just paint it and get it over with.
If my finish paint comes out nearly as shiny as yours, I will be very very happy.   The problem is that the spray gun is getting a bit heavy when holding it up and painting a roof hood and deck lid.  It must be the gun because I don't want to admit that my arms are getting tired.
The interior and seat are from ABC which was bought out by LeBarron Bonney.   I matched it up with some of my original fabric and it looks dead on to me.   I did the installation myself and added a little more padding to the seat.  So I suppose that is sort of OEM.
Yep I'm Native American 100% quantum.  There are still some of us around, but very few around here..  I don't travel around and participate in the functions anymore because I have to spend more and more time taking care of my wife.

Jay,
I noticed how good you seat looked and wondered if it was original, nice repo. Does any one make door panels? Mine have custom, but they are old and need to be replaced.

Jay...great job on the seat (singular...I know there's no back one!)by both LaBonney and yourself. Nice Job.
Those spray guns do get heavy after a very short time don't they. Also I'm guessing from the pic with Jeff, either he's about 6'8'', or you're "height challenged" like me. That makes it difficult to paint the roof. I had a particular problem because of the metalics. I actually painted my car main body in stages because of this. To paint the roof, I lowered the car as much as posible..tires off, just the old drums sitting on wheel dollies. I also went to lowe's and picked up two 20" tall aluminum folding interior type platforms. They are too short on the length to walk the roof, so I cut the outer channeling in the center of the platforms, unriveted the center sections, and replaced them with 2x6's, 6 foot long. Worked great, about an 80 dollar investment for the pair, but they've come in handy working on the house also. I can take a pic and post if you want.
Jay, my memory really stinks,. You probably said before, but are you single staging it or base/clear?
Man, I'd sure like to be able to sit down over a pot of coffee and hear about your heritage. That's so cool, and I think something to be really proud of.
Edit...I went back and looked at the pic of you with Jeff. For some reason I thought he was much taller than you...but only a few inches. You both look short next to the '57!

This is what the door panels look like.  That is exactly as I remember them back in the day.  I only stuck them on so I could take pictures for the insurance co.  I'll attach them with the clips after the car is painted.

LeBarron Bonney will make a pair for you.  Just Goggle them and you will get the contact information.   I had my interior done in stock like OEM colors.   They will do color changes.   Just talk to them and don't forget to ask them for color samples.   I have no idea how many kits I got from them over the years to do all of the 33/34 Fords that I restored.

You can see that I didn't spend a lot of time cleaning  the steering wheel that I temporarily installed loosely just to get the car moving.

That's right...No back seat.   I haven't figured out how to roll the back windows though.
I'm only about 5'6".  That's the reason I stated previously that I built up the seat with padding.   I need to see over that big steering wheel.  Back in the old days I always needed a cushion to drive my brother's 57 custom.
The roof spraying situation is all figured out with milk crates and boards.  That's how I straightened the roof that was all caved in. When I first got the car, it looked like someone did a war dance on it.. I straightened it without making any holes in it.  I also have to remember not to step backwards to look at it while I'm on my home brew staging.
The paint will be single stage.

Thanks Jay, that's what I want, I'll check them out. I used milk crates and 2x12 boards also when I painted my panel truck..
