battery

i've never had this happen before, so maybe someone can tell me where to start,    i've been driving the car all summer,  and the other day went to go for a ride,  hit the key,  nothing,  check the battery and theres no charge,  put in a new battery  and don't drive it for 3 or 4 days,  same thing,  hit the key and nothing,  i know its probly a short somewhere,  but i don't even know where to start,  i havn't changed anything,  havn't worked on anything,  any ideas out there?,   thanks    jerry

Maybe the generator/alternator went out, check the voltage at the battery with it running, should be around 14V..

   Turn off all of the switches and then shut the engine off, then disconnect a battery cable then touch it back on the battery terminal.  Look for a spark.  If there is a spark, now you have to very carefully check all of the components one at a time to find the problem.
    Electric problems are usually easy to repair, but hard to find.
