Very happy with the chrome on the bumpers and grill, took a bit of time but well worth the wait.

I know how you feel about getting the bumpers on the car after looking at it for a long period of time without having them on the car.  That's one of the goals that I'm hoping to get accomplished.
I can clearly see the front mounting bolts , but I don't see the end bolts on the front bumper and the bumper guard holes.  Did you weld those holes up?
    They sure do look good.

Actually Jay the front bumper was cut and welded. 6 inches off the sides and 3 inches out of the middle, that's why there are no side holes, and yes he filled in the other 2 holes.

Nice look on that front tucked bumper. First time I've seen that approach..sans splash panel.
I apologize if I missed the topic in a previous thread, but especially now with bumpers, is your car streetable, or built stricly for the strip?
I can do this, I can do this, I, well, maybe

hotroddonnie

Rich the car is going to be drivin on the streets, its plated and insured ready to go, just need to get rid of the snow!

hotroddonnie

The reason I tucked the bumper was I thought it was to much bumper for a Gasser style considering most had no bumpers, and I didn't think it would be a good idea to be on the streets with out one. (HEAT SCORE) HRD.

That's a novel approach to the front bumper design, it looks good. Hope you never need to use it, looks like the front sheet metal and grill will hit before the bumper

YIP! That was pointed out to me before. Legally they are not functional because of that, but the other alternative is....no bumper at all, and that would be even less functional. At the end of the day I like the look. HRD

Now you need some chrome headlight rings. The gasser is really looking good. People will go nuts seeing that coming down the road.

hotroddonnie

Jerry I've seen a yellow gasser done with the chrome rings, mine are painted body color, I just haven't put them back on yet (on the to do list).

And you eliminated having to attach these things too.  I wish that I could get around using them.
It seems to me that the very slightest tap on the front bumper and they will wipe out the front fender because they are not attached to the frame, but to the front sheet metal.

I've thought about sheet metal to bumper braces quite a bit.  If that bumper moves, the fender buckles.  Fords have had some kind of bumper to fender brace for years.  The '70s pickups had braces and the bumper would flex back and wrinkle the fender.  The bumper would move back to its original position and the fender would be buckled.  Same with the '57.  My '57 did not have the common bracket.  It had a brace from the outer end of the bumper back to the rear bumper bracket bolt on the frame.  This brace kept the bumper from vibrating but not sacrifice the fender with a small bumper impact.  I have both sets of braces and am still trying to decide which to use.
