I couple of weeks ago we were talking about sources for 57 Ford parts, and I made the comment that I needed just a simple hood "safety hook, and spring", but the Desert Valley junk yard wanted $75 for one when I called!  Living in Southern California limits our access to junk yards for old car parts.

Several members on this forum offered me this part, and Jumping Jack Flash dropped one in the mail to me.  No cost, No postage!  I did not ask, or expect free parts, it was a very kind gesture to a fellow car guy that had very few options for this small part.  I will put it to good use on my Ranch Wagon.

It's help like this that makes sharing information on this forum a great resource.

Jack, Thanks Again!

That was really cool of Jumping Jack Flash to do that for you. There are a bunch of nice guys on this forum who share their knowledge and parts with you.
Desert Valley is not on my list for finding parts for my 57. Called them once for some 57 parts (rear arm rests) and they acted like "what's a 57 Ford?". Ended up finding them here on the forum from one of the members.

When I was in junior high, my older cousin had a car (1st one was a Desoto...the next was '57 Ford Custom).  Anyway, my other too young to drive cousins saved our lunch money and whatever we could earn to put in the car fund to buy gas, oil or a tire so we could get a ride to the Friday night game or dance.  When I was a little older and had a car, friends got together to see each other's latest ride or parts upgrade.  Many times one friend would have breakage and we all pitched in...sometimes with a spare part or two.  I had other cousins who were members of a club...Ann Arbor Road Aces.  Some of these clubs had a club car.  In some clubs, not all members could afford a car or at least not a race car.  By pooling their resources and efforts, they all shared ownership of the club car.  That was fifty plus years ago but this site from time to time gives me that feeling of belonging and sharing.  Isn't this a club?

Gasman, I agree, and I think we all want to give, or share our experience as we can.

When I grew up during the 1950's, I had a neighbor named Royal Mason.  Royal had a pair of 1947 Fords, and they were always broken.  He had a scary looking home made engine hoist, and a chain "block and tackle" to pull those flatheads out, and work on them in his front yard.  That was over 57 years ago, this ten year old kid was over wrenching, watching, and learning.  It started me on a "car guy" interest that lasted a lifetime.  It's sad that in today's world, we don't want (or trust) our kids or grand kids hanging out all day at the neighbors house.  But maybe sharing some internet information, helpful ideas, experience, and some times parts is the best we can do to further our hobby of keeping these old cars running.

I also agree that not all car forums have the common interest of "just helping out"!
