Does anyone have a guess as to what I'm using this floor drain for on my next car project?
I can do this, I can do this, I, well, maybe

Looks like a fresh air duct inlet to me.  Could work for either the engine intake, or the fresh air intake for the climate control systems.

Zapato

ok! its still a drain and you will be using it and a long tube so that you can take care of business on your long road trips without having to pull over.

Why sure, that's gotta be the spacer between the top of the carb & your hood for fresh air.  Or, if you are running some kind of air-box over the carb it will be the air inlets the hoses connect the holes to either side of the radiator, ala 64 Thunderbolt style.  It looks slightly too big a diameter to use in your exhaust system (lol).

Good guess, Lynn.  3 1/2" speakers just fit right in. I'm making some side panels for my console....up under the dash. This would be very quick and dirty if they were just going straight in the panel...stretch some fabric over the top, install and done. However, I'm putting them in tilted, so there's going to be some filling and fiberglass work before covering.

Dang!!! I just finish cutting my roof and I was waiting for the gold paint to dry!. So your not using it for a roof vent?

RICH MUISE

Hahaha...that's funny. I thought us Texans had a monopoly on Redneckism. I know some guys with ratrods that would do that.

You know I looked at your post last night and drew a complete blank. Woke up this morning and thought "speaker grill"! I know we have talked about this overnight revelation thing before... a mind is a terrible thing to waste, I guess I don't have much to do!

All my woodworking stuff is put away in a shed, and too darn cold to be pulling it out to use anyway, so I was trying to come up with a housing that would hold it, and I could mate to the plywood panel easily. I spent an hour at Lowe's looking at everything from electrical boxes to trak light fixtures, etc. Finally got around to the plumbing department. I couldn't believe how well it fit, and already had holes for the sound to come thru. I just bent the straight mounting tabs on the speaker back and pushed it into the drain. Those 2 tabs acted like a barb and holds the speaker in place tightly!

been helping a good friend build a 42 Ford pickup, and yesterday we were bleeding the brakes (finally) and filling and checking the under floor master cylinder real pain thru the stock round hole.  specially now with a later dual chamber cylinder. told him that we needed to start looking for some kind of hatch cover so that it would be easier to maintain the system. there are out fits that make some but the cost for what they are is outrageous. so my suggestion was to start looking at things that could be adapted, what I should have said was start to think like Rich. am thinking the lid off an ammo box am sure something will present itself.

Zap...a fuel door cut off a vehicle with a flat panel (pickup ?)where it's mounted should work pretty well for that. On the other hand, if your friend is building a rat rod, an exposed ammo box lid would look pretty cool, particularly if it's still got the ammo specs printed on it.

Speedway sells hatches just for that.

I'm looking for a hatch about 6" x 3' long. Any ideas?

speaker pod update......I used low expansion foam to fill the area and get it shaped. Once I figured out I could avoid huge air pockets by building it up with small beads gradually, it worked pretty well. Overnight it got ridid enough to saw and sand. Next step was sealing it off and getting it smooth enough for the vinyl covering. I went to Hobby Lobby to get a coating that was designed to put a hard sandable surface on styrofoam. I saw it on their website, but they didn't have it at the store, so I looked around and found some "plaster cloth" used in HO railroading scenery. It worked great..actually was a fun project. I'm anxious to get it sanded smooth and sealed so I can cover it. I've got some 4.5" speaker grilles on order from ebay.
It's nice taking a break from the wiring and tech stuff to play for a while.
