Ranchero interior trim question

Another one of my "how does this fit?" "where does this fit?" questions!

Behind the "B" post are some painted metal trim (see poor quality picture below):

Can anyone advise how these are retained?  The holes have corresponding holes behind in the B post but they are too large for screws (they're the same size as the holes in the metal trim piece).  Anyone know what holds them in place?

Also, what is used to retain the wind lace?  On other cars I've seen a kind of hard cardboard/wood strip that they're stapled to, is it the same on 57's?

Thanks

Gary, I do not know the answer to your question.  But on the many other Fords that I have worked on over the years had spring clips that pushed into a larger hole (like your described) and then they allowed for a #8 oval head Phillip's screw.  They look like an "X" with a screw hole.  Spring steel sort of like a speed nut.

I'll be asking this same question some time in the future.  My Ranchero had some "custom" upholstery done and I don't remember those trim pieces at all, unless they are under the new custom naugahyde that was installed probably several decades ago.  I will have to peel it off to see if those trim pieces are under there, and if not, I will be looking for a couple of them.
That also falls into the category for me, of, "I'll remember how to put those back on, I know I will."  Hope you are better at that than I am.
If I could roll back the years, back when I was young and limber, loose as ashes in the wind, had no irons in the fire.... wish I'd done things different, but wishin' don't make it so. ( Ian Tyson)

If I could figure out where I buried my trim and sealant manual, I might be able to answer that.
My best guess in the meantime is the same type of spring clip that's on door panels, and the widlace is held in place by that strip...which would be the reason for the clips all the way up rather than just the corners.
I can do this, I can do this, I, well, maybe

The metal panel is installed with chrome oval head (phillips) sheet metal or machine (not sure which one) screws and the countersunk holes (if I remember correctly) in the metal panel should line up with existing holes in the body.  If I remember correctly the holes in the body required some sort of caged nut that fits into the body hole.   If the holes are not countersunk then use the screws with stainless finish washers.  The metal panel is used to hold an upholstery panel in place that is made of the same type cardboard material as the door cards.  The metal panel is also used to help hold the door wind lace in place.  I have a picture of the installed pieces.  As soon as I can get my wife to show me how to post the picture I will do it.  By the way, the cardboard material should be the same color as your main body color.  You will need to make your own cardboard panels and use a vinyl dye to spray them the desired color.  The wind lace is stapled to the cardboard and then covered with the metal panel.

Trick or Treaters have ended, so here is the picture of installed interior parts for 1957 Ranchero.

The metal trim piece is held on with push in clip with a smooth button head, same idea as a door panel clip, except the head fits flush against the trim piece.

If some one can "educate me" as to how to post a photo here on the forum, I'll post a photo of these "buttons", as I recently purchased a pair of these trim pieces and the buttons were in place on each piece.

As always, thanks.  I never thought about looking in the trim and sealant manual, but as I can't find it at the minute it isn't much use to me!

I spent ages looking on the internet for pictures of a Ranchero interior, but they are all of the seats forwards, I couldn't find any of the area behind the seat.

Some really useful information as always, thanks for the help.

You need to upload the pictures to an image hosting site (like Photobucket).  Once done the pictures will then have their own image code shown (usually next to the picture) that starts [ img ]and ends[ /img ], just copy & paste this code into your thread and it displays the image from the site that's hosting it.

The clip is like a door panel with a button head .that is the only thing that holds that trim piece on.

Here's a link to how to post pics I did back in '10., and you do not need to use a photo hosting site, btw.

That's useful Rich, I didn't realise you could do that.

If I remember correctly the wind lace is held on by tabs that you pry out  then put your wind lace in and tap the tabs down to hold it in place, then the metal trim covers it up and also helps hold in place. Its been a while since I finished my ranchero.
