dash lites

went for a car ride tonite, the dash lites were out,  could it be the fuse on the lite switch?

An educated guess it would be a bad headlamp switch. Had that happen to me several years back and that was the culprit.

It can be corrosion or dirt on the rheostat portion of the switch. turning clockwise and counter clockwise several times will help sometimes or if you are lucky it will hit a sweet spot and the lights will come on. I think the fuse on the back of the switch is only for the dome light?

u hit it right on the nose,   its the reostate,   but i think i'll still replace it,  the lites are to dim

i played with the reostate more,  and the lites came back the way they should,  don't have to replace it,  saves lots of work,     its good that we have guys on here that can help out,      thanks again guys,   and to fordblueblood,    whats it is mean?     jerry

It's not hard at all to change the switch. You probably are only delaying the change for now. Wouldn't doubt the switch could be 60 years old. Glad you got them working for now.

The fuse is for the dash lights and the taillights.  If you have a good fuse and the taillights work its probably the rheostat.

update,    the dash lites work great,  worked all day getting all the dash lites, radio, clock, and where the air, egn & lite switch,   wind shield wipers etc,  all work,   not going tochange the lite switch,  dash lites are brite enough,   thanks forallthe advise guys.       jerry
