57 steering box rebuilt

I have a lot of slop in the steering wheel. I simply want to rebuilt the existing box (worm gear type) has anyone just rebuilt the original steering box? Would it wear quick? I know I can upgrade to a 58 or 59 column they are just hard to get and a little pricy. I'm just trying to look at what options I have.

Lares Corporation in Cambridge, MN can rebuild the original boxes, it is a little pricey though.  I think it was over $400.

I have used these guys on my Thunderbird and my Skyliner.  I am happy with the results.  I think it was about $300 for the Skyliner.  I live close, so I dropped them off at their Riverside CA location.  They don't do the car boxes there, but there was no shipping because they run a truck back and forth from Riverside to San Jose where they do the car boxes.

When they rebuild the steering box was it a manual? A worm gear setup or did they upgraded your box to a recirculating ball bearings?

I may be wrong but I can't see any way a recirculating ball set up would fit in the small worm box, at least not a Ford type. Thats why I use the 58 box..

Mine was a manual box, no upgrades.
