Hello Everyone, While under the dash cleaning for the fresh air duct, I noticed a braided cable laying at the opening in the fire wall?? The windshield wipers were not on the to do list at this time, but I removed the cowl top ventilator grille. WOW!! That being said are the little pulleys and the wiper cable available? This will be a very interesting system to work on!!

Man, did you step into a hornet's nest.  Use the SEARCH feature and you'll find help to re-install the wiper cables.  Here's a link to get you started:

Hello Everyone, I can't stop looking at this wiper-pulley-cable creation !! Before I reach into this hornet's nest, I have a shop manual ( not the most detailed photo ) , I have read the information I've found hear. Before I jump in I'll try to get plenty of pictures of what I can and can't see for reassembly.. Does it make sense to remove all parts , clean , repair , then try to put the puzzle back together?? Is there a better picture of this pulley-cable layout?

I can't help you, as I converted mine to a hard arm system. (talk about a challenge!!) What I can tell you is I do remember it being confirmed that the diagram in the manual is incorrect on the way the cable on one of the pulleys is wound.
I can do this, I can do this, I, well, maybe

I can't find it right now but there is a great picture of the cable routing somewhere on this site. If you search a little it will give you the correct orientation of the cables. The one in the service manual is incorrect. Also, when you install them, the tensioners have holes to pin them down you can install the cables on the drum. Been there, done that. Not a lot of fun.

Perseverance is your friend. Everyone is giving you good advice. Be sure to lube all the axles and make sure they are turning free.

The cable routing in the manual isn?t correct. I?m 1100 miles from my car, but if your still interested next week I can give you the proper positioning.

Im not positive but I think the two cable ends on the drivers side go on the center of the drum and the other two go on the outside. Just make sure they don?t cross and touch each other.

Hello Everyone, Thanks gasman826, I just read the article from the Skyliner / April 2010 that cool57 posted. I'm glad I read that this morning at night that could cause nightmares!! I'll read it four or five more times it will greatly help.. At this point all I have done is look, I can see why they may have gone to plan B in 1958, but I accept the rebuilding challenge. Thanks to All who continue to help with my 57 project..

Hello Everyone, I have removed all the wiper system parts, all the pieces are here and in working shape except of the four 1/8 inch cables one of the passenger cables is in two pieces.. I have looked and no luck in finding replacements, is this something I'll have to make myself? I plan on cleaning every thing today, then take a better look. If I must build one cable maybe it's time to change all 4 ? I might be wrong but this is a cool set-up another thing that makes it a 57.. The project continues

Hello Everone, cleaning windsheild side pulley assembley, my mistake only one cable per side. Before I break something has anyone removed and replaced the cable? Both cables should be changed, can they?

rmk57

The manual has a pretty good description with diagrams of how to assemble everything. Had mine apart a times before I discovered that the
picture in the manual isn't correct. One tip is to assemble the driver side first, pull the pin to take out the slack in the cables, then do the passenger side.
After doing this a half a dozen times and figuring out the cable orientation I became pretty good at it.

Good luck!

Hello Everyone, Before I do harm to the part, here are two pictures. I'd like to remove the cable in one piece so I can make a new one. Looks like one cable with three ( like electric butt connectors ) crimped on the cable, the center one is almost pressed into the wiper pulley, the ends are to large to pull through the other pulleys to remove ? Any Ideas ?

rmk57

If the cables are in good shape I wouldn't touch them, leave them on the pulleys. The center drum is pressed on with a spline on the shaft.
I wouldn't mess with that either, it could be clocked to be in a certain position.
