When I was fourteen years old, I was amazed at how unintelligent my father was. By the time I turned twenty-one, I was astounded at how much he had learned in the last seven years!

Great stuff Jeff. I think a 60 Starliner would be the only car I would consider trading my 57 for. I read somewhere recently that the tri-power set up sold over the counter at dealers was something like 15,000. That number seems high to me so I don't know how true it is.

I don't know about that number either Jim, but I did meet a man with a beautiful 60 Strainer once.. who told me in 1960,... he owned 3 Ford dealerships at that time. and the 1960 was one of the worst selling car ever.He lost 2 dealerships because of very poor sales and the 1960 models sold horribly due to a recession at the time....  I don't know if that was just bench racing or true.
I wasn't born then :003:

I have heard that the tri-power option was a dealer option only.

Really? I thought tri-power came from the factory on 390/401hp and 406's. I had a friend who bought a 62 406 off the lot and it had tri-power.

I dunno..Just what I have heard around here locally and read through some print... but may have been a regional thing....

I have 2 of the tri-powers complete. One for each of my Couriers.

As for the claim that the '60 Fords were not selling...I don't think so. I suspect he was probably bitter because he lost 2 dealerships and had to have something to blame it on. I was around in those days...and everyone had one. They were still plentiful into the 70's when I was a 20's something. I actually know where there is one now in Branson...but it is in need of full resto and the guy is asking too much for it. And...I have enough projects going now. LOL!!!

And that pic of a guy walking up to Dewey's car to get an autograph...much different and better times then than now. Can you imagine walking up to a governor's car today in a parade? Especially if that governor was or had been a Presidential candidate? yea...not gonna happen. We have lost our civility...and I doubt it will ever return. Sadly.
Nice car though...
