nice story! :001:

Joe's last pic is very cool. in front are 2 little V8-60s so this must be 1937/38 and up. Jay, do you remember seeing Dick's supercool and og 1937 Sedan. I think it has a v8-60 .

edit: I was referring to your post #607.

your latest post also shows the small V8 60hp ( top 2 pics)

gotta love the valve assemblies in the last pic of post #614. These pictures give a lot of insight in V8 production and design. totally cool ! :004:

Ran across some old pix of cars on 4th Avenue, the old main drag in downtown Anchorage.
That's where the kids cruised when I was in high school, & long before that. We especially looked for the girls around the historic 4th Avenue Theater when the movies ended.

Here's one from 1958 on Anchorage's East 5th Ave. Territorial Police office in the background. Down east 5th Ave was, & still is, on to the only way out of town to travel to the lower 48 states by road. Those cars lined up are probably for the restaurant that's next door, behind this view. That lot is still dirt & just has one of those little coffee hut things on it.

When I was fourteen years old, I was amazed at how unintelligent my father was. By the time I turned twenty-one, I was astounded at how much he had learned in the last seven years!

Wow.....that '57 Custom was less than a year old at the time. All of the components from other cars probably could have been found in perfect condition in a matter of hours in the L.A. area, and without the internet! Possibly the opposite problem of what we have today in that the stuff they wanted to use was too new for the salvage yards. LOL, I can here it now.....hey, it's 4 o'clock, call Spike at Midnight Auto Supply and tell him we need some '53 Dodge spears here in the morning, and have him find some Lancer caps while he's looking.
I did notice they said the back bumper was stock, which it wasn't. I remember when Buick portholes were the big rage for years and years.
Back in that time period, cars from SoCal would have driven to Tiajuana over a weekend for a new Naughahide rolled and pleated.........no appaointment necessary.
I can do this, I can do this, I, well, maybe

Guys
I received this email from Cobra Joe this morning.  I'm kinda computer challenged and don't know how I can help him.  If someone can point me in the right direction, I will relay the message to him or call him.   Thanks Jay

Jay, this might help. I haven'T been able to log in from the top log in  button as well (which usually works automatically, once you type in your user name). What I did, there is a second line with buttons below, which says, home... help...calendar.........aso......login..

I used that 'login' button and it leads me to a second window with a seperate login. This is working for me.
