Motor Mount Failures

Hey guys, I am on my second set of Motor Mounts. The rubber keeps separating from the steel. They are made by Anchor (I thought they were US made?). Anybody have any thoughts on the subject? Granted the FE makes a lot of torque, but...

I've read several complaints of premature rubber failure.  Fifty years ago, I added tethers/restrains from the block to the frame.  Chain, cable, or turn buckles were used to limit engine movement.  The rubber was still the primary attachment point and vibration/noise insulator.  If the rubber failed, the limiter kept the engine in place.  For the last twenty years, I have drilled all mounts and installed a bolt and lock nut.  The rubber still does its job.  If it fails, the bolt keeps the engine safe and secure.  I modify both sides.  This is not an answer for off-shore, poor quality rubber products, but does keep the engine in its proper place.  The bolts can be loose for no impact or adjust them to a balance between harshness and movement.

The PIC is an old engine with a carriage bolt head (barely visible) in the center of the mount.  The carriage bolt was used to clear the frame stand.

I've broken 2 on my 514. I made a solid steel set and have been on there for a couple years now with no issues. I left the trans mount rubber mounted.
I really haven't noticed much difference from the rubber to solid mounts as far as vibration. My engine puts out about 600 lbs. of torque, it's going to shake
or vibrate regardless of what I'm using.

Anchor mounts are crap! I had them on when I first installed my Y, ran a few days without the hood on and every time I hit a little bump in the road you could see the engine shake around like it was mounted on Jello  :005: I found some old stock US made ones on Ebay and all is well so far..

Thanks for the comments. I ordered BALKAMP mounts from NAPA, don't know if they are any better but I AM going to bolt through them with a 5/16" NF flat socket head cap screw with a rubber washer and lock nut.

With all the headaches that are happening  with motor mounts, one thing is for sure,  If I ever have to replace my motor mounts, the first thing that I'm going to do is drill them and bolt them together.  I don't need any future problems.

Lynn, please post a picture of it when you get done.
