Door Latch Issue

I went to close my door and it bounced of the door stops. The Star on the latch is free wheeling. I haven't looked into yet, any comments as to what the problem may be?

After thinking about it over a beer I realized the latch was stuck in the open position. A couple of taps with a small ball peen hammer reset it. Probably needs cleaning and a little lube.

While the latch is out, you can grind a little off the corner of the lock lever on the latch which enables you to lock the door then close it like a modern car.   It's a pain to have to use the key or reach over to lock the doors.   Sorry I don't have a picture to post.    I do the same mod to '55-'57 T-Bird latch, which just requires a little tab ground off.

Anything we can do to make our cars more like a modern car without changing appearance the more comfortible they are to use regularly.
