Can anyone tell me if  Ford offered an under hood light for the 1957/58 Ford Line-up or as an option at the Ford Dealerships?
Thank you for your time.

I have one if you need photos. I was planning on installing the one I have in my trunk. I'm not sure if its a Ford made part or not but it could be a under hood light. It came off of a parts car I had and in the trunk.

I can't tell you how many times I wish I had one under my hood back in the 70's driving back and forth from Olympia WA to San Diego. Many times could have used one! LOL!!! Didn't know they were an option.

Learned early on in my Navy carrier to carry a flash light.  Home was WI, not too many ships close to it so road travel was a given.  Back in the day when there were no cell phones you were on your own and exits were hard to come by so things were thought out before setting out.  But then again you could almost overhaul an engine along side the road unlike today where you need the owners manual to find the hood release!

Yea...I have become a flashlight slut. I have them in all my cars, several in the house and I carry a slim little thing with me that I found at Harbor Freight. I guess one could say I am always lit.

Ford sold an accessory light that plugged into the cigar lighter and had a few feet of cord.

It was red plastic. Back in the 80's most every Ford vendor had them for sale, guess they didn't sell very well at the dealers.

Thank you fellows for your input on the light issue.

I have one of those red plastic All-purpose TRAVELLING LIGHTs as Ford called them. NOS, mint in the blue box, Ford logo and all. They can frequently be found on ebay. sweet accessory and can be very useful in case. plugs into cigar lighter socket.

Now THAT is beyond cool! I might have to look around for one. Probably a small chunk of change too though.

I have one of the round metal lights that has about 15' of cord that unreels. It clips into a metal bracket. I use it in my panel truck for a dome light or it can be unreeled and used outside or under hood. They were an option in the late 50's early 60's I think. I found this one in a commercial truck in the junk yard..

Tons of ways to get a light under the hood.....some are cooler than others, but I don't think any of us answered Oldgasser's original question of whether or not Ford offered an (installed) under hood light as an original accesory.:icon_scratch:
I can do this, I can do this, I, well, maybe

No factory installed underhood light for 1957.

That metal one looks like the one GM sold in the 60's.

My old 1948 Pontiac Torpedo 2dr sdn Streamliner had one of those and they were a factory accessory on the more expensive line cars.

If you are talking about the same Pontiac (AKA the Chief), that was sitting in my back yard, then check the fine print in the contract.
The under hood light was not part of the deal and you will be  required to bring it back by hand delivery.  You will not have to put a 12 volt bulb in it. I think that I can do that.
