Starter issue

I tried starting my '57, which now has a 351 and C4 trans the other day and the engine didn't start, but the starter kept running on. I pulled the battery cable to stop it. Hoping a new solenoid would solve the issue, I replaced the old one, but now the new one just clicks loudly. I then jumped the solenoid, but got sparks, so I think the starter is stuck in the flywheel. Most likely I will pull the car onto my lift next spring, but wondered if anyone had issues like this before. Thanks.  I imagine there are different starters for various year 351/at combo, correct ?

I know there are two different flywheels for an FE with different number of teeth... maybe there are different flex plates for C4s.
