water pump

ok,  when your old you ask stupied questions,  or when your old you forgot alot of things over the years.    so,  my anti freeze level was down so i'm checking what the problems could be,  and in doing so checking all things out i noticed a hole on top of water pump,  about 1/4 in dia,  is it there for a reason?, in the shaft area like mabe over a bearing,  could it be to add oil ever so often?,   o,  the anti freeze level solved,  thanks for any info,   jerry

Jerry, that's a weep hole.  If the shaft seal fails it will start leaking water from that hole.
