I've got the steering column out of the car, and while its out I'd like to clean & freshen up the shift arms at the bottom of the column. Problem is, I'm not sure how to get it apart. The whole assembly will slide down about an inch, then stop like its hitting something.
So before I end up breaking something, how do the shift arms get removed?

Got 'er! Once I scraped some of the accumulated crud off it was easier to figure out.

Crud? On an almost on an almost 70 year old car? How did that get there?  :003:
