She was funny. I'll ad lib here... Years ago she was being interviewed by Johnny Carson. He asked her if all the attention her boobs were getting was annoying her. She replied well, yes, I mean, I have a great ass too!

My deal for the '57 was finalized yesterday, that is except for the money/car exchange. He came to the house yesterday, and after talking details for an hour or so, we took it out for an hour. I drove up to the river 25 miles, and let him drive back. That was the first time I'd ever been a passenger in the car. he had never driven a 50's car, so I was a little worried about what he would think about handling, ect. He absolutely loved it.
Should have some cash in my hand Tuesday.
If anybody knows of a low mileage Subaru (2005-10) Outback for sale, let me know.

Congrats Rich, I know you have been trying for a while to find a good home for it.

Sadly, the people in the market for 30's-50's cars is starting to get on in years.  bawl
When I was 14 years old, I was amazed at how unintelligent my father was. By the time I turned 21, I was astounded at how much he had learned in the last 7 years!

On another note...the plate for the wife's Cougar came in today:

She was pleasantly surprised!

Pretty cool, Joe. Great garage to keep that Cougar in!

Well, mixed emotions this past Monday............for the very first time, I had to watch the '57 go down the road without me in it. At least it's staying local and went to a good home. It will have to share a garage with a '63 Barracuda.

1964 was the first model year for Barracudas. Never really liked them.

Can I ask why? You had a lot of time and effort in that car.

yeah, lots of time and effort, and money. At times during the 10-year build, I wasn't sure if it was a labor of love, or a love of labor! I got to drive it a lot for 10 years after building so, at 94,000 miles since '16, I had a ton of smiles on my face.
If I had a comfortable amount of money, I would have kept it, but I don't. My COPD (smoking 67 years now) stops me from being able to take care of my cars anymore, so the '57 had to go.

Nobody has asked, but the selling price was 26,000. Great deal for him, not so much for me, but liveable.

I think most folks consider asking rude.  I am having the same issue with the Ranchero.  Sold it too a good friend, lifelong friend, he is now unable to take care of it and has major problems with his health, never mind his house just burned down!  So off to the three sites I visit with no responses for the asking price of 25K.  Submitted it to Hagerty, their response was 17K being the best chance for a sale.  So we will see.

I watched a John Clay Wolfe video w/Chip Foose yesterday. They were looking at a '56 Chevy wagon,(not a Nomad) that a guy had for sale, it was a real nice car that he wanted no less than $65K for.
Chip explained to him that the 50-60's car market has aged out; listen carefully to this few second video:

Rich.I am glad you sold it. you have been vending it for a while.
Unfortunately ,.... the sales in the vintage market is falling and falling fast.
Early  fords and such,1900 to 1946 is a virtual wasteland.... and now 47 to 64 is also falling super fast.
Many people they think they can get all the money and more back to of their investment.Sorry,. that ship has passed.
Many bought into this hobby  thinking they could make a fast dime,.. and flip cars to insane values.
For a while they did.....  but that is changing rapidly.
The generation of my Daughter has zero interest in Grandpa's cars. ,hell.... they can't even afford a home, let alone a vintage car.

I'm pretty sure this ride is over.

It's not all doom and gloom..... I will get a 3W 34 ford for under 10K in about 5 years
hahahah

I have long felt that hot rodding is not dead, it has just shifted colors.  Today you can't say hot rod and 20K in the same sentence.  But you can say "rice burner" and 20K easily in the same sentence.  Many Japanese imports are readily available, easy to modify to handle better and go faster which is exactly what us old buggers did in the 50s and 60s.  Same game, different cars.

Funny that reminded me of my past. When I "got out of cars," sold my 428 '57 Fairlane in 1968 I wound up in a Datsun 510. Trying to stay in College hoping to not get drafted. That little car was the most over engineered car I have ever owned. After I graduated and got married I got back into cars through that Datsun. It handled extremely well, stopped well was easy to work on and modify. I quit cars again in 1983 for career and family.

Back into cars in 2012 at retirement but that '57 still had my heart so....

My point is that I do get the "rice rocket" thing.
